That may be the worst bbq write ups ever.

Other than Tom's and Bozos, all the places (even the ones I said were over-rated) were all varying levels of good and beat the socks off the BBQ joints everywhere else. Memphis has some unsafe areas and visitors (especially at night) at some of the more well known places can unwillingly put themselves in danger. I've learned the hard way but park close to the building, in well lit areas, and do not have bags/valuables visible in your vehicle.

I take back what I said. Read thru it too fast.

Thanks guys...lurked enough to know that was gonna be dicey. Staying at Westin on beale-but would be up for watching basketball on Friday with any good fans!!

Don't for get about The Rendezvous, down from the Peabody . . . be dry ribs in the country!

No. Best dry ribs are made by the Vienna (GA) Volunteer Fire Department. Make you want to drive to Memphis and throw rocks at the Rendezvous.

The problem is it doesn't sound like you truly love any of them. For it to be a fair rating, there need to be some real winners and losers. Most of this sounded 'Meh' at best and 'Awful' at worst.

This is kind of what I thought too. How can you try all of those BBQ places in Memphis and not find something you're excited about? If you don't like BBQ, stop going to BBQ joints.

We have a new BBQ place that opened about 6 months ago. It's called Mission BBQ. So far, I've been really pleased with their food. The smoked pork, brisket, and ribs are really good. The pulled chicken was not very good. Do you have a Missions near you?

Missions is pretty good. They have 6 different sauces at the table for you to try. Everything is A la carte. Meaning you pay for each separate item. Little pricey. But if the BBQ is good I’ll spend a little extra.

Germantown Commissary was my favorite when I was there but as others have said everyone has their niche. GC does everything well and it isn't really that far from downtown if you favor quality over convenience.

Don't forget Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken!

Commissary or Leonard’s

Commissary has BBQ spaghetti as a side and it is good too

Leonard’s has Italian spaghetti as a side and I really like it.

I live near Memphis and these are my go to places along with Gus’ Fried Chicken.

You really cannot go wrong with any of these

Have only ate Central, but it was some of the best bbq I've ever had. Good stuff!

inbf someone talks about some completely different place than Memphis and it's rich BBQ tradition.

Damn!

For Ribs:
#1 The BBQ Shop
#2 (close 2nd) Marlowes

Those are the only places I will go out to and order ribs. I will say that Bozo's has a really good pulled pork sandwich though.

Going to be in Memphis for the first time in 15 years.

Best bbq at cozy corner, toms, central?

Central wins the all-around.

Tom’s has the best pulled pork sandwich in town. Careful heading there at night...

BBQ Shop is extremely overrated.

Yes, Rendezvous is a tourist trap. Yes, their ribs are overrated, as well as hit and miss. Still hard to beat their atmosphere though.

Commissary is good. Though not in Memphis...

Didn’t say it was. Just in the larger Memphis area. It’s my personal favorite in the 15 minute area around me.

I have lived here for 34 years and had never heard of it until just recently. Nice marketing tool using the city's name and not even located in the city.
