For the baseball fans, I got to meet and talk to John Smoltz last night. He came up for a clinic and fundraiser for ETSU baseball. Really good guy and had some awesome stories about his career. Made me miss those years!

As a Braves fan, I always liked Smoltz. I remember going to watch him play the Smokies. I can’t remember the circumstances, but he must have been rehabbing from an injury.

Who is Galvin? Do you even 1990's Braves' baseball bro?

Great guy and a real good golfer. Played with him in Boca back in 1995.

Paging Catbone. Any recommendations on a low-end (sub $300-400) bass combo amp? I would like to get something I could use to perform with if needed, but basically just a practice amp for my house.

Helluva staff they had back in those days. Rocker threw gas

Going to be in Memphis for the first time in 15 years.

Best bbq at cozy corner, toms, central?

Really can't go wrong with most. I live in the suburbs, so I favor the Germantown Commissary. But I would go with Central or the Bar B Q Shop. I haven't been to Cozy Corner in a while, and I have been told Payne's sandwich is great. Also, I haven't been, but multiple people have recommended Elwood's Shack, which has a couple of BBQ options but also has other food.

Here's my guide

Corky's - overrated. If you must eat there, eat at the one on Poplar. The Corkys on Poplar is still good.

Rendevous - Tourist trap. Best thing there is red beans and rice on Fridays for lunch. If you get a good batch of ribs, then Rendevous is fine but quality is not consistent.

Central - Consistent and good. Smoked wings are good. Location on Summer Ave is not too safe. Location on Central is really tight parking

BBQ Shop - Pretty good. Worth a try.

Topps - Inexpensive and not bad for the price. SOme of the locations are sketchy areas. STick to pork though although burgers are real good

Toms - Rib tips are awful. The old riblets at Crapplebees are better.

One and Only - Pretty good. Sides are very good

Germantown Commissary - Good.

Cozy Corner - Not bad (I think they've reopened since the fire but double check).

Paynes - Good but watch out at night

Part II of BBQ Review

Memphis BBQ Company in Southaven - Good but not quite worth the hype

Bozos in Mason - Overrated. Better off going to the Gus's across the street.

Brads BBQ in Bartlett is pretty good. Not bad priced

Elwood Shack - Good BBQ but I'd lean fish tacos

Blues City and Pig on Beale - Do not get BBQ on Beale Street. Walk to the Central BBQ instead.

Fat Larry's - Not bad. Service is a little hit or miss

Interstate BBQ - Overrated but not too bad. Best of the Neely spots though.

Leonards - If BBQ wasn't unhealthy enough, how about all you can eat BBQ?

So it sounds like you may be able to find some good BBQ, but you may die as well........soooooooo

We have a new BBQ place that opened about 6 months ago. It's called Mission BBQ. So far, I've been really pleased with their food. The smoked pork, brisket, and ribs are really good. The pulled chicken was not very good. Do you have a Missions near you?

Listen to this guy. But seriously just go to One and Only and be done with it.

I would recommend Central for the pulled pork nachos, and I personally prefer the sandwich on texas toast from BBQ shop. I also agree that most dishes at Commissary are good (but I just prefer to do business in Mid-Town), and that I have never been overly impressed with the Rendezvous.
