Major issues I have with him:
Wants to raise the retirement age to 70 or 72. That's akin to companies robbing people of their pension. Average age of death is 75. People get to draw for three years after paying in over a lifetime?
Its not going to even be there in our current system so he is trying to fix what is about to disappear.
Well then just go ahead and abolish it. Quit taking the money of hard working American's under the pretense that they'll be taken care of when they get old.
Reducing our military by 43%? Really? Take care of our own. Monroe Doctrine. Our military like the rest of our government is bloated. I worked for the D.O.D. for 8 years trust me on this.
I don't claim that there is not waste in the DOD. We need a strong military though and we saw the results of a reduction of spending in our military when Carter couldn't get a freakin' helo of the ground in an attempt to rescue our hostages in Iran.
Wants to reduce the federal budget by almost 50%? I'm all for a smaller government but that's laughable. Its definitely something to shoot for!
Wants to open the borders with Mexico? This stands on its own. Its already open! Hello! Come to Texas with me let me show you! Its like the drug war, why fight a losing battle? Are you saying we don't ever intercept bad guys or contraband from coming across the border? The reason many of the illegals coming across the border are for a free education and healthcare. Do you not see the catastrophic effect it would have on our economy?
Wants Dr's to be able to prescribe heroin? They do anyway, how many prescribed drugs are derivatives? That should be the least of our worries. So we need to make sure our healthcare system covers heroin addiction too? I'm sure these addicts are perfectly capable of taking care of themselves and supporting their habbits.
The basic thing about libertarianism is do whatever you want as long as it doesn't have an adverse effect on others. Many of these proposals are just the opposite. The implications are disastrous.
I've seen enough. And, my leanings are libertarian. Fine. Vote for the other two ineffective crooked parties that have us where we are today. Vote for more of the same.
Like I said, I hate having to vote for the lessor of two evils. This guy gives me nothing to cause me to reconsider.
From what I've read you're somewhat misrepresenting his immigration stance. He wants to make work visas and the path to legal citizenship easier while also enforcing stricter penalties on employers who hire illegal workers. Mexicans would only be able to come to the country to work, and they would only be eligible for citizenship if they could provide for themselves and their family. Also his drug policies would do more to limit smuggling across the border than anything the war on drugs ever did.
Not what I read.
Having served as Governor of a border state, Gary Johnson understands immigration. He understands that a robust flow of labor, regulated not by politics, but by the marketplace, is essential. He understands that a bigger fence will only produce taller ladders and deeper tunnels, and that the flow of illegal immigrants across the border is not a consequence of too little security, but rather a legal immigration system that simply doesnt work. Militarizing the border, bigger fences, and other punitive measures espoused by too many politicians are all simplistic solutions to a problem caused by artificial quotas, bureaucratic incompetence and the shameful failure of Congress to actually put in place an immigration system that matches reality.
Governor Johnson has long advocated a simplified and secure system of work visas by which willing workers and willing employers can meet in a robust labor marketplace efficiently and economically. Aspiring immigrants would undergo a background check, pay taxes and provide proof of employment.
Making it simpler and efficient to enter the U.S. legally will provide the greatest security possible, allowing law enforcement to focus its time and resources on the criminals and bad actors who are, in reality, a relatively small portion of those who are today entering the country illegally.
