Should be a no brainer to hire Weinke. The recruiting upside with connections to Florida & IMG are too good to turn down.

A no brainer?

No one can ever give me anything tangible on why he's "the guy" except y'all think he's going to just snag us kids from One high school.

Being at IMG gave him experience in the recruiting world that could be very valuable. He has seen the way top recruiters in the nation have come after his players and I am sure he has taken notes. But outside of IMG he also trained a lot of big NFL QBs in the offseasons like Cam Newton, Teddy Bridgewater and Russell Wilson. All in all, he does have a nice resume.

Him or O'Connell I think would be better than Canales, IMO.

Ties to an elite HS football program, knows the south, plus being Heisman winner can't hurt when recruiting. Weinke seems really good to me!

I think the help that he could give Butch will be highly overstated. Fulmer's weaknesses as a coach were very similar to Butch's weaknesses. Fulmer seems like a guy who has trouble admitting his own mistakes, so I'm not sure the value he would bring there.

The potential lack of prioritization for basketball concerns me.

Would be a terrific ambassador for the university and a great fundraiser. Never have to worry about where his loyalties lie.

Overall, I take DB over Fulmer 10 out of 10 times. I'd slightly prefer Fulmer over Gilbert solely on account of being a UT guy.

Football focused AD, AD respected by coaches nationwide, AD with deep connections in coaching, and an AD that is a good fundraiser are all great things for UT imo

Fulmer as AD has huge potential IMO. It he's hiring a football coach, he will not make a Butch Jones-esque hire (Butch has done well, of course, but it was a huge gamble).

I wouldn't underestimate his desire to be the guy to lead Tennessee back, albeit behind a desk instead of on the field. Plus, he would be instrumental in perhaps uniting the big money guys. I would imagine many of them regret signing off on his firing.

It's getting real. Chris low saying Fulmer has emerged as lead candidate.

I love Fulmer and what he has done for the University as much as anyone. But I don't see this as a good AD hire. Being an AD requires overall admin/management and political skills and I'm not sure Fulmer has those skills. Blackburn is and should be a slam dunk, and I always thought the reason he became UTC's AD was to get some AD experience and was the AD in waiting.

Watching Finebaum now. The ticker says Fulmer has emerged as 'prime' candidate. Hmm...

Meh... what administration experience does Fulmer have? Blackburn is better qualified for the job, period. However, I'll take Fulmer over any other candidate I've heard talked about.

CBJ desperately needs a strong AD who will come in and help him. Hopefully Fulmer could offer that and learn on the job the administrative part of the job.

AD is all about networking and fund raising.

Fulmer former President of National Association of Coaches... Networking (check)

Fulmer has relationship with the boosters and has been raising funds for Neyland renovations... (check)

Well they think he's a no brainer as qb coach, not OC or HC.

He won a heisman as a qb, spent 5-6 years in the NFL as a qb, and was an NFL qb coach

Hard for me to think he's not qualified to coach college qb's. also hard to think he wouldn't be able to recruit.

Heisman winner is the next best thing to the GOAT (who was robbed of the Heisman).

Would be interesting to see how Fulmer would handle the rest of the sports programs. Our track program is almost non existent, and women's basketball and baseball haven't been great lately. Baseball is a head scratcher, Serrano is proven winner.
