Recruiting Forum: Football Talk XIII

Feels like we would be in good shape if Blair could just get up to speed and be ready. It's frustrating to win a recruiting battle for a Jr. college player like that, and then have him not be able to help us out. Not only does it seem like he can't help us out, but he can't help us out at a position with hardly any depth at all. He was supposed to step right in and be the immediate starter.

I hope some of this stuff about him being a lost cause is not true.

Also real sad for Gilliam. That is rough. But at least he finally got his moment in the sun and run through the T as a starter one time. Maybe he can make it back next year and try to win that job again. I wouldn't put it past him.

The problem with early polls is that people are wrong and don't vote based on resume. Tennessee, based on our win, should be in the top 25. Name 25 more impressive wins in Week 1.

I'll take the fact we received votes as a step in the right direction. Hell if we were in the top 25 bumping right back off of it after OK wouldn't make any of us feel any better. We shall see though.

Exactly. I've long been an advocate of no polls until October at the earliest.

SIAP but according to ESPN Vic Wharton has switched positions and is now playing on the DL. Also, he apparently sacked Chuckie Keeton for a 5 yard loss on Sunday.

4Q USU C. Keeton sacked by V. Wharton for -5 yds - ESPN Video - ESPN

At least your video was of the correct game ESPN. However, the annoucer clearly states that it was Latroy Lewis with the sack. Thanks for playing though...

It's like they're trying to be bad. Have they gotten so big they just have unpaid interns posting this stuff and no one checks it?

I gave you a like for that statement. It's an honor most of us will never experience. Very disappointed for the young man, but as Inky would say “Can’t wake up stressing, when each day is a blessing”.

Sucks about Gilliam. Not sure what the move is but it can't be as bad as trying to block Clowney with a tight end like we did last year. In all seriousness whoever it is might just have to get help from the tight end on some plays. On a defensive note, I am fired up about Chris Weatherd. The play where he came from being lined up over the center and tracked the running back down from behind was awesome. Speed, speed, speed. So glad we finally got some.

I know. I don't even think Vic played on Sunday. He is more of a badazz than we suspected!! He sacked Chuckie and he wasn't even on the field!!

I chuckled. I also chuckled watching other teams trot out their jet sweeps this weekend. We're trend setters.

Hasn't Oregon been running that for several years? At least they have been on my NCAA football games.

EDIT: I chuckled as well. For a split second, when Pig turned past that last defender, I thought, "Please God, don't dive!"

Some of the football forum guys are calling in to Finebaum, predicting 10 wins and wins over Alabama, Georgia, and Oklahoma. These will be the 1st guys yelling 'Far Butch' when we lose any one of those games and we perform how we know expect we will. SMH.

Note: I want us to win 10 games, just as every one of you do, but...

Just got done watching the replay again. I saw Wharton on O when Peterman came out

I missed that. Glad he got in the game. My girls and I were already headed for the car at that point. My 5 year old wanted to leave at halftime but she was a trooper for daddy and stuck it out until the end of the 3rd quarter.

Just heard that on Finebaum. Good gosh. I just turned the channel when he asked the caller to name 3 reasons why UT wld beat OK. Just did not want to listen to unintelligible drivel from a supposed fan.

Thank God Charles from Reeltown, AL called next to put the state of Alabama back into its proper place. It was hilarious.

By the way, I don't know if anyone already mentioned it since I was 50 freakin pages back in this forum, but how 'bout Chris Weatherd? Glad he made it in, since several people were ready for Butch to reclaim his scholarship.

Absolutely! I felt that Chris and Danny O'Brien were the pleasant surprises defensively. Weathered 's speed is going to be crucial this year against spread teams.
