Recruiting Forum: Football Talk XIII

ALWAYS okay to blame Dooley.

Stumped your toe? Dooley's fault.
Spilt coffee? Dooley's fault.
Everything bad can be traced back to Dooley or Obama. That's just facts of Tennessee.

I just inhaled diet mtn. dew reading your post. I should blame you but **** it, it's Dooley's fault.

They want him fully healthy and ready for OK. If we have a similar performance this Sat then I expect limited snaps again. He will get a full load come OK.

This would be my expectation as well. He hasn't been the most durable guy, and they'll need him for big boy football.

That early lead gave them the luxury of giving him more rest and also getting new guys more time. The fact that the new guys were good enough to do so helped as well.

As much as Jones watches the number of reps in practice, there's zero doubt he watches the number of snaps in games. Some guys will be afforded a higher number than others based on history and conditioning. And there will be games where it will be nearly thrown out the window if it's close.

Hope the NCAA will give the young man a 6th year, if he wants to try to make it back. Keep your head up, JG.

I am not with you here. I mean I hate it for him.

But To go all Leb on you, We awarded him a scholly. And with this being his last year it didn't matter going forward, numbers-wise. But if we keep him on scholarship next year, there goes one more spot. Now if he's willing to stay on in walkon status, then fine. Sorry to be cold-hearted.

I disagree with you for a couple reasons. 1) Butch said they were going to pursue a 6th year, so he obviously wants him. 2) He is a starter at one of the most important positions. Your starting LT is always deserving of a scholarship.

Blair didn’t come into the program in good shape, but it’s past that now. He just isn't consistent enough or providing the effort needed. This isn’t something that can be fixed at this point in your career.

I think his low consistency still comes from lack of endurance. Sure his body looks better and he can run more wind sprints, but he is still not there when it comes to the overall grind of the OL. None of that matters now, because he better be ready moving forward.

Yeah, OL was one place we couldn't afford a single injury. The defense will have to play out of their minds to get this team to 6-6.

I disagree. I think if your prediction was 7-5 or 6-6, then I don't think it should change based on this.

I mean yes our depth is not good on OL, especially at OT. And yes the injury hurts. But I don't think there will be THAT big of a drop-off going from Gilliam to Blair or Gilliam to Kerby or Gilliam to Kendrick. I mean yes there is a reason he beat all those out for the spot. But he was a walkon (no disrespect). We just need the talent in Blair and/or Thomas and/or Sanders to come out and show itself. This won't cause us to lose to vandy, ky, or mizzou IMO.

I'm too pumped from Sunday night for this to kill my optimism!

Valid points. I understand where you're coming from. I do. I just disagree. And I would hope that in a year's time, the talent either on campus or coming can beat out Gilliam for LT. And spots are super valuable.

If Blair can't cut it, Move Kerby over there, put Thomas in at RT and line the TE up next to him. Yes I know that would be three true freshmen. The world would not implode.

The problem with early polls is that people are wrong and don't vote based on resume. Tennessee, based on our win, should be in the top 25. Name 25 more impressive wins in Week 1.
