Rankings and awards have always been this way but now seem to be openly moving away from what a team has accomplished and toward someone's idea of what they could have or should have accomplished. It makes sense, it provides more flexibility for media to stage sports for viewership et cetera.

I mean georgia is clearly the best team. And if USC beats them in the championship game georgias body of work is clearly better so shouldn't they still be number 1? I know the winner is automatically champ, but the same logic applies - we are literally putting more value on recruiting, historical performance, and who is injured than what actually happens on the field. It makes it hard to care about results and it will have long term negative impact on sports.

Your assuming the committee uses logic, they don't. They protect their traditional powers. That's why Clemson dropped 1 spot when losing to SC when they dropped the vols 6 spots. It's all simply choreography. Same with all the awards.
