I took PTO today because I knew I'd be unproductive anyways and I need to burn some PTO before January. Been looking at UGA games and their stats trying to get a feel for their defense. I decided to look at the 3 teams that are similar to us, or at least around the same rank in rushing offense as us. Those teams were Oregon, Kent State and UF. Not the greatest evaluation though as Oregon it was game one with a new QB, new coaches and new scheme. Plus, Kent State, obviously is going to be outmatched talent wise and I take their ranking with a grain of salt as over half of their games weren't against Power 5 teams with those stats. Florida is an interesting study because they are very similar in rank as us. They do run at a higher YPC, but we average more rushes per game and yards per game. I've only watched highlights from the UF/UGA game, but Etienne actually was rushing for 4.8 yards per clip, but only ran the ball 11 times. The other RB and Richardson also had 11 carries each for a combined average of 21.5 yards and 1.95 YPC. Yikes. Not sure if the game dictated that Etienne couldn't run more, or if his yards came in garbage time, or most yards came in one run, etc.. but he was clearly their most effective back. So for UGA , against above average rushing offenses (again, grain of salt with "above average rushing offenses") they are making these teams on average rush for ~100 yards less than their normal amount and ~1.99 yards per carry less than their average. Should be noted though that none of those 3 teams have offensive balance and only Oregon ranks in the top 75 passing offense stats, which again, Oregon was the 1st game of season breaking in new QB and coaches. So UGA was able to key in on all 3 teams run game. They won't be able to do that against us, or Hooker will have a field day. Anyways, here's the stats breakdown:
