Wrong!!! I’m certainly not out! I have been a Vol for over 40 years.

I’m just tired of the hype each and every season and I will believe the wins when I see them.

Even though I don’t share the unbridled enthusiasm as many, I’m still a Vol and I want them to win each and every game!!
Wasn't gonna say anything because negative predictions don't bother me but if you're so "tired of it", what in the world are you doing in here?

You didn't even give a prediction and and stroll, you seem to want everyone else to be as down as you are? I apologize if I'm wrong just appears that way.

Multiple recruiting classes of Pruitts players. A staff full of highly respected teachers and past winners. 2nd year of consistency in the weight room. 2nd year of HC duties for Pruitt. A big time upgrade at OC. One of the most experienced QBs in CFB. Returning almost all of our production on offense which has shown to lead to much improved results on the field. The much improved confidence of every player and person surrounding the program is visible and audible.

These things should lead to a better season.

Simply put, it’s much more logical to believe in year to year growth, than to believe that this will be the same football team from 2002, 2009, or even 2018. Too many changes year in year out in CFB.

Those are reasons for your optimism based on nothing more than opinions and assumptions.

Logic is based on clear reasoning rather than opinions or assumptions.

Logic is based on wins and losses.

Logic dictates that since Alabama, Georgia, Florida, SC, Mizzou, and Vanderbilt have multiple game winning streaks over the Vols that they will win again this season. Not because the Vols aren’t making progress but rather because their programs are currently in a better spot than UT’s.

It’s logic to think that Miss State will beat the Vols this season because they have been a better program in recent years.

UT rarely loses to Kentucky so it’s logic to believe that UT will beat them again this season.

That’s not going to change until it’s proved or disproved on the football field.

Can the Vols overcome some of these programs this year based upon the progress they have made this off season? We are all hoping they do.

That’s the reason they play the games and we watch them.

He told the coaches he was done AFTER he spoke to the team doctor. So, unless you were in on the conversation he had with the medical team at length Tuesday, went with him for treatment Wednesday, and spoke to the medical team again Wednesday and Thursday, you simply don’t have all of the facts. And if you were in on those conversations, then your ethics need to be addressed as well as your HIPAA violations.

I did give a prediction. I said early on that 6-6 is reasonable outcome for this team. But, that’s not a given unless they can end the 3 game losing streak to Vanderbilt which I’m not certain that they will.

What did the doctors say? Why wouldn’t he stick with the team as others have done? Just tired of it?

Doesn’t affect me - just curious.

If the medical issues are true then the quitting is even worse imo. Take your medical retirement and stick around for your teammates.
Do you know him? Do you personally know he’s not going to be there for his teammates? Are you aware of his situation? Whether or not he’s applied for a medical retirement? Did you speak to the doctor or the medical team, or Coach Fulmer like he did? Do you know what it takes to be qualified for a medical retirement? Unless you know the answers to all of these questions, then you don’t know enough to make a judgement.

He is having ongoing back issues and can’t get them to resolve. He had to make the best decision for him and his body. It wasn’t a decision made lightly. He had even considered retiring after having multiple concussions but decided to tough it out. So, it wasn’t because of hurt feelings or depth chart issues. I could go on and on, but I know Nate. And I know he’s a good kid. And I know his true intentions towards his team and his teammates. I know what his coaches said to his parents just last week when they were praising him for doing everything that was asked of him. People will believe what they want. But I know what I know.

So we have to beat teams WHEN we play them? It’s why I come on here. 🤔

Because a different team beat another different team in the past means this year that same thing will happen.

Nope. Not logic.

Logic consists of inductive and deductive arguments. Since it is impossible to make a deductive argument for the future record of a football team, an inductive argument is necessary.

You also cannot deduce from last year’s results how this team will fair. So, it appears we are both in the inductive argument game here. However, my argument is not predominantly opinions, but even when they are they are strong, and ones which I would say are cogent.

Multiple recruiting classes of Pruitts players. - not an opinion.
A staff full of highly respected teachers and past winners. - not an opinion the staff has 16 Nattys combined.
2nd year of consistency in the weight room. - not an opinion.
2nd year of HC duties for Pruitt. Not an opinion.
A big time upgrade at OC. - an opinion, but not one that anybody is disagreeing with.
One of the most experienced QBs in CFB. - not an opinion.
Returning almost all of our production on offense which has shown to lead to much improved results on the field. - not an opinion.
The much improved confidence of every player and person surrounding the program is visible and audible. - sure, an opinion, but still supportive of an inductive argument.

There are little arguments behind each of those statements which I could very well support in manner I think would be strong and convincing, but please, don’t make me do all that here. Lol

Sorry, I said "and stroll". I meant give it and that be good enough.
You honestly seem like you want everyone else to feel like you.
Like an FF sort of thing.

Right. So stop making predictions. You don't want to believe because you don't want to get disappointed. That's fine. Others want to believe that what they see and hear means more wins this year. That's also fine. Hope you don't have a problem with that.

cannot disagree. VQ says we were late and the bureaucracy is looking for more evidence. Total joke.
Yep - seems like we bungled it a little bit too. I remember Pruitt was on SportsTalk in late May and wouldn't confirm the waiver application had even been submitted. Doesn't mean it wasn't - but this whole situation has been weird.

While certainly on the negative end of the spectrum, it's not like this is out of the realm of possibility. I'd probably guess 6 wins are more likely than 8.

Ooooooh, Smokeytom!!! Excellent

No I don’t know him and neither do 99.9% of the people on this board, but when the HC says he has “left the team” and it was “his decision” then that doesn’t look good for him. Maybe he had his reasons, either way he is no longer with the team and for reasons largely speculative.

It seems like your underlying argument here is that I should probably keep my mouth shut on matters of which I’m not fully illuminated. If that is indeed your argument, I suggest you take a break from the board because speculating on all things UT is what we come here to do.

You seem too close to this situation. You should know I wish the kid nothing but the best in life and hold him no ill will. Disappointed more than anything.

They may not have wanted the news out that it had been denied, and they were working on an appeal. It seems they don't want any information out until they are ready to release it themselves, and they may not want to release it until it is final. Just guessing like everyone else.

Like an FF sort of thing.

I don’t want everyone to think like me. I really like Pruitt and the direction he’s taking the Vols.

I just don’t want theses same folks to call for his firing after the Vols don’t win enough for them this season.

UT really needs to give Pruitt years to get the Vols back to a top 10 team that’s competing for the SEC every season.

I’m afraid that if he only wins six games this year, many of these sunshine pumpers will be calling for his firing when in reality six wins is a reasonable projection for this season.

Making a coaching change or putting Pruitt on the hot seat after this season is the worst thing happen.

seeing this after my last reply.

If all you say is true then it is unfortunate that Pruitt gave such a blunt and seemingly negative comment on the situation. He should’ve have explained as to save the kid some face.

This is totally reasonable. But it is still okay to get excited about the possibilities based on what we are hearing. There will always be people who want to fire the coach because they are not winning enough.
