Just wanted to throw this one out there: a name some people I talk to “in the know” are throwing around: John Grass, Jacksonville State HC. Pruitt has known him forever and they think he wants to interview him.

I’m skeptical he’d want to leave a HC job but who knows?

Again, just throwing it out there - not trying to be an insider or “report” anything as 100% true and gonna happen.
Looks like they've put up crazy numbers the last few years, honestly surprised he hasnt been hired as a G5 HC.

It’s obviously way too early to tell and i hope it’s not true in pruitts case but some people are better coordinators than HCs. It’s a whole different job.
Defense jumped from 83 to 50 this year while going against a much tougher schedule. Plenty to criticize Pruitt on but defense ain’t it cheif.

Not saying there isn’t some truth to it but my skepticism is more directed at “why”. Big Jim played at UT under Neyland and experienced greatness. Why would they want to destroy that? Even at Cleveland they went out and hired a good gm who had a great draft class.

Some people think that just because they have billions of dollars, it automatically means that they know everything about everything. Just because they know a lot about gas stations and dad played for Neyland, that doesn’t mean they actually know anything about athletics. We are talking about the same guy that publicly batted around the idea of Condoleeza Rice as Browns HC, and she is even on record as saying it’s a bad idea.

I don’t think the Haslam that played under Neyland has been making many of these athletic decisions (both UT and Browns) the last 15 years or so. I think he’s more or less just signed off on what his sons have wanted to do.

You are talking about one decent decision after several years of poor ones. A blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then, just wait till this GM has to buck on some hairbrained whim.

I don’t have a problem with any of the Xs and Os from Pruitt. He showed he can scheme up and dominate two quality teams in auburn and Kentucky. Should’ve been a 3rd in South Carolina.

I love what he did with our DBs.

I used to believe all the Haslam stuff was tin foil hat conspiracy. But after they caught half the BOT out of town and rammed Currie through, then tried to ram the same HC candidate down UT’s throat that they tried to ram through at the Browns (ended up firing the GM because he bucked on it), the outsourcing deal and all the Davenport fallout, and just the fact that UT athletics of the last decade has looked an awful lot like the Cleveland Browns of the last decade, I think there is something to it.
You have to be a blind fool at this point to not see that.

UGA is close to Bama which had their way with OU which lost to Texas once and out scored them the 2nd time. Only way UGA loses is if they take the night off.
They should all just go home and not even play... ah the VN way of thinking

NFL is such a mess. All these openings and watch them fill with retread failures like always.

I mean at this point why not give a Gregg Williams a shot instead of a jim Caldwell that already has proven to fail everywhere.

All these jobs available and really only a few proven guys available like Arians and McCarthy. McDaniels needs to be hired in one of these jobs. I'd be giving colts And bears D.C. a strong look.

I would also be calling Urban Meyer, Bob Stoops, Lincoln Riley, Cutcliffe, Matt Campbell, Brohm, Harbaugh, David Shaw.. etc to gauge interest and attempt to bring new blood in the league
Jim Caldwell is a Rooney Rule. I think they stick with Williams and groom Kitchens. Franchise QB friendly thing.

Same. Secondary is promising. Front 7 could be rough this year if these JUCOs don’t pan out

They don't view it as destroying. They think they know more than they really do. Big Jm has stated he wanted to emphasize academics over athletics. Money buys influence and they are using that influence to shape UT into what they want it.
In other words he thought he could turn us into Vandy east and still compete in the SEC..

I don’t disagree and we did statistically improve on defense overall but those last two games really discouraged my faith in Pruitt because we had a chance to finish on a very positive note

After the last two games I ended up deciding that any time UT played a decent passing QB, their defense got lit up. Stidham was a basket case and Kentucky couldn't throw the ball all year, so the defense was able to slow them down. The teams may have 'quit' in the last couple games, but it looked more to me like they just didn't have the athletes to stop a decent passing game.

The defense lacked speed at all 3 levels so they couldn't get pressure and they couldn't cover. As a result, they could only slow offenses down that couldn't execute in the passing game. They were disciplined enough to fill run lanes and slow down a 1 dimensional rushing attack. I actually think the QB play in the SEC was exceptionally strong this year so the defense may look a bit better next year just due to some QBs graduating.

Based on this year, it was hard to judge the coaching 1 way or the other. I thought the offensive scheme and play calling was terrible but I don't know that there's a scheme that will work with a bad OL, a QB that is immobile and has poor pocket presence, and slow receivers. That's not a good formula for a spread or pro style offense. The only strength on offense was JG's accuracy / arm strength, big receivers that could make plays down the field, and a pretty good RB. Not much you can do with all that when the OL can't block.

Only fix for all this is recruiting and developing better athletes. Barring the team falling apart (i.e. going 2-9 next year or something ridiculous), Pruitt will get time.

Love hitting the slopes this time of year
