I don't think it is strictly who the players are, but also how they were developed, which is still squarely on Butch. But the point remains that two proven defensive minds were unable to get much done with substantially the same group. The major difference is that Pruitt has the ability to change that over time, whereas Shoop's hands were tied.

I don’t disagree and we did statistically improve on defense overall but those last two games really discouraged my faith in Pruitt because we had a chance to finish on a very positive note

Next season will tell us what we have in a coach. We had several players who simply didnt care about winning or losing at the end of the year.

If he fails here will he not bear some responsibility for the roster and it’s development or is it still a vast conspiracy brought by the Haslams?

I used to believe all the Haslam stuff was tin foil hat conspiracy. But after they caught half the BOT out of town and rammed Currie through, then tried to ram the same HC candidate down UT’s throat that they tried to ram through at the Browns (ended up firing the GM because he bucked on it), the outsourcing deal and all the Davenport fallout, and just the fact that UT athletics of the last decade has looked an awful lot like the Cleveland Browns of the last decade, I think there is something to it.

Literally everybody in football agrees that JP is one of the best defensive football minds in the world...but you go ahead and keep doubting that, and blaming him for this defensive rosters failures..If he ends up failing here, he will go right back to being the best defensive mind in CFB when he goes somewhere else...it will be like magic.

As a coordinator though...

Trust me, they are entrenched. Still are.

either it's just year 1 and stuff happens, or not.

i would have preferred to win those last copule games and finish 7-5 and walk out of this season w/fewer doubts.

instead, we basically got exactly what we got w/Butch in year 1. so the questions are what htey are, and it's our own experience with how these "year 1's" have gone that dictate most of the anxiety. that's something most of us have to at least acknowledge.

for me, i'm just gonna wait and see what happens in year 3 and 4. until then........

NFL is such a mess. All these openings and watch them fill with retread failures like always.

I mean at this point why not give a Gregg Williams a shot instead of a jim Caldwell that already has proven to fail everywhere.

All these jobs available and really only a few proven guys available like Arians and McCarthy. McDaniels needs to be hired in one of these jobs. I'd be giving colts And bears D.C. a strong look.

I would also be calling Urban Meyer, Bob Stoops, Lincoln Riley, Cutcliffe, Matt Campbell, Brohm, Harbaugh, David Shaw.. etc to gauge interest and attempt to bring new blood in the league

Not saying there isn’t some truth to it but my skepticism is more directed at “why”. Big Jim played at UT under Neyland and experienced greatness. Why would they want to destroy that? Even at Cleveland they went out and hired a good gm who had a great draft class.

Yep - our biggest issue hasnt been that we won’t spend money necessarily. The issue has been that we’re not super attractive to top candidates and we won’t spend the money to bridge that gap. And also it’s always felt like we have a lot of decision makers who want the credit of finding the next diamond in the rough instead of just paying a known commodity.

We’ve done it twice in our athletic history to my knowledge: we spent big for Rick Barnes and Johnny Majors. And both of those hires worked.

The only reason we’re not super attractive compared to other schools right now is the absolute bungling and mismanagement by UT boosters and admin that has resulted in the worst 15 year stretch of our 120+ year history. Seems like we finally have some of the big wigs rowing in the same direction, just gonna take time to undo the damage.

They don't view it as destroying. They think they know more than they really do. Big Jm has stated he wanted to emphasize academics over athletics. Money buys influence and they are using that influence to shape UT into what they want it.

Just wanted to throw this one out there: a name some people I talk to “in the know” are throwing around: John Grass, Jacksonville State HC. Pruitt has known him forever and they think he wants to interview him.

I’m skeptical he’d want to leave a HC job but who knows?

Again, just throwing it out there - not trying to be an insider or “report” anything as 100% true and gonna happen.

i'm not sure that's actually the case though, at least above Fulmer's head. new president, new chancellor....same boosters and same big money. no idea how the new pres and chancellor are going to interact with that, and Fulmer is only going to be here for so long.

i think we're in a window where we can get some things fixed, but a lot is going to depend on who some of those 'next' players are going to be....

i think we're still very much in a state of flux in the athletic department. and what we're seeing right now is solely the result of the reaction of the fan base to Currie/Schiano....we have a band aid, and it only lasts as long as Pruitt is successful. and we don't know that he is going to be yet.

we need someone over there that's thinking 5 years down the road, both in men's and women's basketball, and football.

i don't think we have that right now. the change isn't over, it's just on hold.

You think doctors today get kickbacks for prescribing drugs? I don't know what world you are living in. Let me be the first to tell you that I am a physician and know many more doctors than you ever would. The vast majority of us care about our patients and have worked and studied our asses off to give the best advice and information. Statins are AMAZING medicines that save lives in people with ASCVD. You think statins are money makers for physicians?? Get the **** out. We love not prescribing medicines, but they are an adjunct to lifestyle measures that save lives.

I just hope people around you aren't neglecting their physicians for your "medical advice". Recommending diet only in someone with an a1c of 10? That's medical neglect
My wife’s A1C was 9 and with diet alone it is now 5.2 and she was on a statin for her triglycerides ( which was stupid). Yeah diet alone can reverse type 2 diabetes and statins are a useless drug and shouldn’t be taken by anyone. I don’t believe doctors are getting rich by prescribing statins I just believe most doctors are not up to date on current research.
