Just speculation, but a Briles hire would indicate to me that Pruitt is realizing his roster (specifically the defense, and even more specifically the defensive line/front 7) are no where near good enough to be dependable over the next 2-3 seasons, and that in order to win games in the short term, he is going to have to outscore teams. That would mean a strategic shift from his preferred ball control style to a more wide open style.

Interesting.
Liked you post.
I certainly hope that CJP realizes the need to be more than a ball control offense. I wonder if maybe he was trying to shorten games this year by running as much as he did when we were obviously not good at it. Even long term, being able to sling the ball around is what it takes to win. Saban knew he had to change to keep up but he still has the players to grind it out on the ground when he needs to.

Or it might mean that it wouldn’t be a bad idea to have one of the brightest offensive minds in all of college football calling plays.

OCs can adjust their pace. I’m 100% sure Briles would be able to come up with a creative game plan that’s tailored towards what Pruitt wants to do from a general tram strategy standpoint, because that’s what good OCs do.
I'd prefer he just worry about the offense.

He said the Freeze thing wasn't happening days before anyone else came to that conclusion, mentioned the guy at OK State getting a look early, mentioned Briles, etc. He's been right, and pessimistic, which is also the reality, since the beginning. TB is connected and has been in the business as long as anyone but isn't beholden to the UTAD like other sites because he run it himself, which also weirdly gets him criticized on this board, which makes zero sense to me. He's a personality, and for whatever reason he rubs some people in this market the wrong way, but he's always had good info.
Hi Tony...

Why do people think pace of play at all dictates what the hire will be? I’m sure Pruitt prefers a ball control offense but will do whatever is needed to win. You know who else prefers a ball control offense? Nick Saban. Yet here he is adapting to his talent and the college football world around him and lighting up the scoreboard.

So listening to 104.5

The only report about Briles is that he asked a recruit if they "liked white women? Because there are a lot of those that like football players at Baylor"

If that's it who gives a ****
There are multiple other unnamed coaches indicated as helping Art attempt to cover up crimes. Maybe his son, who has been a big time apologist alleging that Art did nothing wrong, isn’t one of those unnamed coaches. But I don’t believe it’s worth the risk.

What went on at Baylor is atrocious. Tennessee can do better.

Any word on Callaway and Jennings for next season? It would be salivating to see those two along with Palmer in Briles’ system.

why did we wave Helton's buyout? Dude owes us at least for the vandy game where he clearly didn't give a F...

From an article: Under the terms of his contract, he owed about $860,000 for leaving before March 1. However, his contract outlined that the buyout would be waived "for good cause," such as becoming an FBS head coach, and "upon the request of" Pruitt.

We can do better than this? Who?

Kendal Briles stats as an OC...

Seth Russell and Stidham threw for a combined 3,300 yards

2016 Baylor:
281 passing yards per game
242 rushing yards per game
34.6 points per game
Seth Russell and Zach Smith threw for a combined 3,600 yards

2017 FAU:
213 yards passing per game
285 rushing yards per game
40.6 points per game (#8 in the country)

2018 Houston:
301 passing yards per game
227 rushing yards per game
46.4 points per game (4th in the country)

I’m aware others are reporting this...

Pruitt will interview Kendal Briles tomorrow. His other interviews have included John Lilly and I’d expect that to remain the same here.

If things go well with Briles, it is interesting to note that he has coached with the same offensive line coach, Randy Clement, his entire career except his one year at FAU. Clement has proven to be vital in the run game philosophy.

He is likely going to interview Dan Enos as well but I don’t think that is a stone cold lock at this point.

Things can obviously change but in my opinion Enos isn’t the factor that Briles and Oklahoma State’s OC Mike Yurcich are in this search.

folks are going to find something wrong with everyone. Briles is young, smart, creative, cutting edge offense, and with young, means willing to adapt and go with the flow, which is exactly what we need. He is trying to make a name for himself, move from Baylor, and will do what is necessary. I mean, who doesn't like a pretty white woman, or black woman, or Asian woman, or indian woman, or latino woman, or purple woman, or or or or

“Better” implies more than football acumen. That was not clear in my original post.
