I see what you're saying but, if Briles didn't have any real prospects for an OC job elsewhere at the time that Houston approached him, then why not just sign? Sure it was a risk, but one I'm sure he can live with. I mean, he wouldn't have signed it if he was opposed to staying in Houston another year, right? Nothing wrong with him staying there if he's happy or comfortable. He knows he'll leave for a promotion eventually.
He was the OC for Lane Kiffin when he took the same job at Houston. He also interviewed for the head coaching position at Texas State and may have turned it down. He got a 3 year extension with Houston recently. He was on the staff, with his dad, when the Baylor stuff unraveled. At least he's moved on from the Baylor stuff and is making a good name for himself.

I like Tony, I think he's entertaining. He does have good info at times. But he 100% just stirs the pot sometimes and is definitely a conspiracy theorist guy. Like I said, I like him. But he's definitely irritating at times.
Of course. He is a sports talk radio host. That's his job. Get people to listen and call in.

You can get people to call in and have good ratings without doing some of the stuff he does. Like I said, I like him. Listen to him about every day. But I've definitely turned off his show mid-show because of how irritating he can be.

Been told by multiple folks that FAU head coach Lane Kiffin has strongly endorsed Briles to Jeremy Pruitt. That's not a surprise considering Kiffin was the first coach to give Briles a chance following what happened at Baylor, but I do know that Pruitt really respects Kiffin's opinion.

That 247 article really sounds like Briles. I’m surprised. Why in the world did he just sign that contract?

His resume is something I can get excited about. I’ll still believe it when I see it.

He is an alum there so dropping them a. Bone I assume. He is on FSU list too

Just speculation, but a Briles hire would indicate to me that Pruitt is realizing his roster (specifically the defense, and even more specifically the defensive line/front 7) are no where near good enough to be dependable over the next 2-3 seasons, and that in order to win games in the short term, he is going to have to outscore teams. That would mean a strategic shift from his preferred ball control style to a more wide open style.

Interesting.

We waived Helton’s buy out.
Well damn. So much for being a problem solver.

Or it might mean that it wouldn’t be a bad idea to have one of the brightest offensive minds in all of college football calling plays.

OCs can adjust their pace. I’m 100% sure Briles would be able to come up with a creative game plan that’s tailored towards what Pruitt wants to do from a general team strategy standpoint, because that’s what good OCs do.

I think 90 percent of the names floated during this process are really testing the preconceived notion that that is really his preference.

And I say thank goodness if it’s not his preference.
