It really feels like we're right back to 2010-2013 again. The Jones era was good for a Florida win and a Hail Mary. That's about it.

Boggles the mind. We were on such an upswing going into 2016. Shoop looked to be a great hire. Picked to win the east. Got the FL win, hail marry to beat GA. But then Injuries set in. Jones underutilized Kamara and somehow we lost to USCe and Vandy. Haven't recovered since.

We need to worry about beating SC, Vandy, KY, Mizzou before we worry about the GAs and Bamas of the world. A reasonable progression would be dominating those teams by 2020. Then maybe being a threat to GA for the east a couple years after that. I don't think it happens quicker than that.
Probably right. We got to have outstanding QB play and more big nasty lineman both sides of the ball. I do think JG has a chance, something I was short on before this game.

Is anyone else optimistic about the fact that the team now has two relatively easy games upcoming to work out all the kinks, before the UF game?

Just figuring out the right OL combination as well as getting some young guns more experience over the next two weeks would make a worlds of difference the next two weeks.

Have posted such a couple of times. We won't know what we really have until UF. Having two lesser opponents gives the coaches opportunities to watch guys in real action instead of practices/scrimmages. How else can you explain starting Abernathy in the secondary? Whatever 'burger did, he needs to atone for it and get back in there on D. Add in the coaches will redefine their schemes and play calling on both sides to emphasize the true strengths instead of the perceived ones from preseason.

Agree on the O-line. The sooner they can gel and dominate lesser and equal opponents the sooner they can own the clock and win games. That's one of the position groups that has a lot of upside.

You expressed serious doubt that he was "ready for a job this big"..did you not?

I did not mean that you were screaming "Fahr Pruitt". I was simply using you, a normally positive non critical poster, as an example of those things get started.

We said we need to be patient, and withhold judgement on this years results...but..yet ONE game in and people, even good people like you, are already expressing doubt about the guys ability to be the head coach
I had doubts the day he was hired. I had doubts the day Lane was hired. I had doubts the day Dooley was hired. I had doubts the day Butch was hired. That doesn't mean i wasn't cheering for their success. Thst doesn't mean I was confident they'd fail.

My biggest take from Saturday was how bad this team is and how far we had to go. I thought we had the pieces to be a fairly decent football team. It was a reality check as to how big of a project this is. It was also a reality check as to how inexperienced coach Pruitt it is. He's never deat with the type of adversity he's having to deal with, at least on this scale. He's always just put in another five star stud to replace a five star stud that's not performing. If he had a slightly weak position group, he could diguise it by utilizing other position groups. This is truly uncharted waters for him.

I've said this multiple times on here, the UT administration doesn't care about fielding a winning football team. All they care about is the bottom line. They are the most profitable program in the SEC bringing in revenue that tops off as neck and neck with every program in the SEC while spending much less, 1/2 of what Bama does. They take advantage of the most loyal fan base in the country. They know they can keep throwing anyone out there and fans will keep throwing their maid all thatoney at it.

When you hire a head coach you gamble whether they'll be successful. The lower experience level of the hire the less chance of success. The UT administration thinks gambling on an up-and-comer is better than spending more money on an established coach.

Having said all that, I like this coach better than the previous three. The odds are stacked against him and he has a monumental task ahead of him. I am 100% behind him. But, there's not a poster n this board (at least intelligent one) that would bet their life house that CJP will get us back to where we want to be.

Toss up game, imo. I love it in Neyland

I still believe we got lightning in a bottle. Pruitt will right the ship. It won't happen overnight.

Where did I say I was ready to fire Pruitt? I simply pointed out that CJP has no head coaching experience and it's tough to get that at school like TN. When you hire unproven coaches the risk of failure is greater. I can't back this up with statistics, maybe Chatt can help us out here but I'd say based on statistics alone, he's more likely to fail than be successful. All I've done is point out that because of his lack of head coaching experience we don't know what to expect.
I think a glaring positive you have to see in CJP’s first game as HC (and remember it was a big matchup too, not a cupcake) is he didn’t make any boneheaded decisions in game management, like you see most of the times. Granted, he wasn’t faced with those decisions in crunch time towards the end of the game.

You should start drinking your coffee from that cat cup you let me use a couple years ago, since you are bordering on the line of being a negative Nancy, like Catbone. Lol!

Wow! It was only 2 years ago that we were smacking VT all over the racetrack at Bristol. Seems so long ago.

I like most of this post, I think one key to success will be holding on to the staff. If nothing else but stability.

He sure isn't going to kick a field goal if we are close to the goal.

Why? Did you expect a win?

No I didn't.

But I expected more production out of the offense. And a little more life out of the pass rush. It was demoralizing to be honest. I saw the same tendencies from last year. I wasn’t surprised to see Jordan produce. I wasn’t surprised to see the WRs produce. Don’t tell me when Kennedy whiffed on the opening play of the season that it didn’t set a morose tone for you. We looked like an FCS team that first drive.

I’ll get my spirits back up, but that just wasn’t good.
