Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

Stetson Bennett gets all the hate, but the guy was a really good college QB. In 2022, he averaged 310 yards per game against ranked teams, throwing 20 TDs against 3 picks in those 7 games—plus 7 rushing TDs. That’s almost 4 TDs a game against ranked teams! Of course he benefited from having great players around him and from insane defenses (plus Monken as his OC), but he was the highest rated passer in the country against bowl teams in 22 and was third in 21. That doesn’t just happen.

Kirby kept trying to replace him and recruit over him and the stupid walk on kept playing out of his mind.
He sucked. He had freak receivers, a great offensive line and running game, and off the charts defense. I could have won a natty playing qb for Georgia. Stetson Bennett was Georgia's Greg McElroy.

So....stop coaching an active player on your active roster, just because there is a chance that they choose to transfer at a later date? So Merck shows up to practice and that coaches just tell him to hang out on the sideline while they work with the QB's that matter? Yeah....that will do wonders for recruiting and team morale. You should coach D-1 football because you are a motivational jengus!
Nope, not what I said at all.
Is Mac being coached currently? Or told to hang on the sideline?

All that “time and effort” you speak of, invested into Merk, is a sunk cost at this point - you can’t get it back. Continuing based on misplaced “hope” is just throwing good money after bad.

Doesn’t mean excommunicating Merk - that’s just a strawman you stuffed.

The crowd had a MASSIVE impact on that game...the noise caused our OL to spazz completely out against a ridiculously talented UGA front seven, and imo THAT was why Hooker had such a bad game.
It was the defensive scheme. Kirby had an analyst study Tennessee’s offense the whole season. They brought in a special blitz package specifically for the game and that’s what killed us

Never know when you may need that 3rd string QB. It's happened before at least 2 or 3 times I remember.
Mac is currently the 3rd string QB.

Is he allowed to practice?
Does he dress for games?
Get any reps?

Hell, do they even let him eat with the team?

Like I said, he gets all the hate. Hyatt had more TDs in 22 than Bowers and McConkey combined, and yet nobody knocks Hooker for having him and Tillman and Bru—nor should they! Hooker was a crazy good college QB. But there’s something about Stetson Bennett that people hate. I don’t get it.

Simple hope we don't find out who the 2nd or 3rd string QB is. We all have our options. You have to have your whole team prepared. From what little we've seen from G-Mac he looks like the future but you never know when it could click for the other guy. This next year or the year after. We've already seen 2 highly rated QBs not processing at the desired speed.

“He’s been doubted his whole life,” Aguilar’s father said. “I don’t get it. But people still don’t think he can do it. He will show everyone this weekend.”

Could it be our turn to have a QB, who was on no one's radar, explode onto the scene like Johnny Manziel or Chad Pennington or. . . Hendon Hooker?

Sure feels like he could be. He has the opportunity to do it. He has the players and coaches around him to do it. Seems like he has the skill and athletic ability. Hopefully the moment isnt too big for him and he's a player that really shines under pressure. I think he will be. He has the experience and it looks like the stars are aligned for something really special.
