Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

For my fellow nerds...
Some guys posted to reddit a cool visualization of AP rank distributions...neat way to see what data gets merged into the end result & poll.

Our highest ranking was 10.
15 voters had Alabama unranked. (only 7 for us...some folks actually watch ball)

Did y'all see JG on the VQ Rocky Top Rewind a few days ago? He came on towards the end. Thought he did really well. Had some good insight. Wouldn't be surprised if he ends up in Vols-related media sometime soon. He seems to be angling for that kind of position based on his recent tweets.

At the very least, I'd love to hear a tell-all interview from him about his time under Butch and Pruitt. I think fans would be open to hearing it now that the program is on stable ground.

And the under the table method was working good in Tuscaloosa, they were winning and the ncaa wouldn’t dare look at Alabama with Nick there, and Nick didn’t even have to get involved with it. I believe they had a great system going. Not that almost all others weren’t trying but I don’t think they looked bama’s and a few others very hard. It almost seemed bama and a few others were getting who they wanted. Nick was a great coach but I still maintain their under the table game was elite and had protectors. GBO
Pruitt tried doing it just like Satan…we didn’t have the clout Alabama did!

The problem with NIL is that everyone can raise the $ now. Before NIL, Alabama was one of the few teams that could pay players and get away with it. I know “everyone” was doing it, but Bama had the #1 class every year or a top 3 class on an off year. Ole Miss landed a great recruiting class one year in 2013 and they got the hammer dropped on them. Alabama did it every year and they were squeaky clean I guess.

Auburn, LSU, Florida, Georgia and Texas A&M were all seemingly able to skate often as well...I can't recall any of them getting nailed like Ole Miss or us (under Pearl & Pruitt) for ish.

I mean Will Wade & LSU got what exactly for his FBI recorded "strong ass offer"?

All I want for Christmas is for Alabubba to win 3 games this season, my only concern is that if that happened the reduction in fentanyl deaths would be eclipsed by Bammer suicides and I would need to seek medical attention.
Need them to go 9-3 with one of the loses to UT.

Need the debate to be furious and for them to come to the conclusion to give “Deboer Does Bama” one more year because the 70m payoff is too big when he is close.

My point was made to an original post about after injury Alabam is down to a 3* starter.

I don’t believe Saban left because he was worried about NIL but unless he had a 70m NIL budget he was not going to convince 5* to sit the bench and wait anymore without twice as much money as others.

Roy Williams in my opinion walked away pre NIL due to the free transfer rule. NIL just made it worse and Saban saw the two of those together meant he would have to become a people person, this is what CJH has been doing. People and relationships over money, pay people what is fair and don’t upset 10 to save 1. That’s hard work.

I wonder if there is some loophole where you dont actually give a football scolarship, just an NIL package that compensates for such..just walk on.
I think some teams have done that, but won't be useful any more.

There won't really be any place for walk-ons starting this year. You have a 105 player roster limit that includes scholarship and walk ons. So there would be no numbers benefit to make someone a walk on that would otherwise be a scholarship player.

Beyond that, the days of having over 100 quality players that would even give you a reason to run up against that number are over. In the portal era, no one has to worry about that 105 number. You won't have that much quality depth even on the best teams.

Wait....when was McCoy ruled out for UGA?
He wasn't. There is an implicit assumption, at least from the VQ guys, that the staff won't want his first game back to be against UGA.

Which, I don't really understand. If he's available that doesn't mean he has to play 80 snaps. No reason they can't work him in.

But VQ also made me look like a doofus coming in here saying Gibson was fine the day before Heupel said otherwise so who knows.
