Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

I doubt that. Boo is mindless creature and freak athlete. When the ball is put down he will show up and ball out. He's no rocket surgeon but he is a competitor.
It’s not about his ability. It’s about how the coaches/teammates view him. It also has a lot to do with other players stepping up and taking his spot.

@KingVFL also updated thoughts on GE as a recruiter? Pretty strong OL class.
No. My position is the same, but this is a nice class. Have done a nice job of augmenting him.

The staff in general did a good job getting out in front of a few folks this year and location lined up well with good prospects.

This is awesome, but needs a wind component. That’s arguably the most important weather impact to modern football games.
I added wind and made some other changes. I plan on getting the wind from a different data source, but I want to know what people think about it cosmetically first.

Miami had 5 offensive skill position players go to the NFL this year:
1. WR Restrepo - UDFA cut from Titans, signed practice squad (PS).
2. WR George - UDFA cut from Panthers. Unsigned.
3. WR Brown - UDFA camp invite to Dolphins, cut, went to Packers, cut, unsigned.
4. RB Martinez - drafted 7th round to Seahawks, cut, signed PS.
5. TE Arroyo - drafted 2nd Rd to Seahawks, made team.

Ward really did everything for them.

Now let's look at Tennessee last year:

1. Dylan Sampson - Drafted 4th Rd by Browns, named RB2 behind Jerome Ford.
2. Donte Thornton - Drafted 4th Rd by Raiders, named WR1 and is getting all the hype in the world as the next superstar after catching only 26 passes last year.
3. Bru McCoy - UDFA, retired.

More: Squirrel White dropped from 67rec 803yds in 2023 with Joe Milton to 34rec 381yds in 2024. Lowest of his career as WR1, prompting his departure.

I know its been discussed ad nauseum but for all the potential and talent Nico had I think last year's offense absolutely struggled because of him. A good/great QB elevates the play of everyone around him. Nico didn't do that. The only player who was somewhat immune to it was Dylan Sampson but he did not get much production in the passing game which I think ultimately hurt his draft stock. Thornton's lack of production hurt his draft stock, too, as I think we'll see a lot of teams wishing they took him in the 1st or 2nd.

So, last thoughts this morning - Brazzell had 29rec 333yds 2tds last year. Assuming he's ready to play and stays out of trouble, I think 50 rec 600yds, 5tds is more than reasonable output with decent QB play.

Not KingVFL but had a friend who is on staff tell me this is the best looking team Heupel has had at this point. Big and physical on both sides of the LOS. Back end on defense is legit. Run game will be a thing of beauty and passing game will be better than expected (not 2022 good but better).

He said at all levels this is a better football team than least year's squad.

I am pumped!!!

I'm still seeing a therapist over the trauma related to our pathetic offense last year. I blame NICO.

LETS GOOOOO!

Despite the great running numbers. The o line was hot garbage last year. I rewatched a few games fla, ala, ok. The line was a liability and despite that D samp made them look good.
They were not always great, but a bad OL does not put up the #1 SEC rushing offense. DSamp did make them look better sometimes....but if it was a bad OL he wouldn't have broken anything except his legs.

Plus...those teams all have freak athletes on defense as well, and freak athletes make great plays...good talented defensive teams are not going to get roadgraded like Kent State...did you take that into account?

I'm not saying they were elite, that is not true, but they are nowhere near "hot garbage", that is just not true either.

That actually seems to check out with what others have said that have been to practice. Especially with the "physical and athletic". The get off the bus test is a real one.

Hearing that and hearing Ainge talk about how ridiculously athletic the d-line is and how big and powerful the o-line is

Then you add in more athletic receivers, with a QB who understands football better than Nico and has a more accurate deep ball.

We could be very very good...

I mean think about it, Nico, Joe, holding onto the ball, processing slow and missing wide opens. Not all their fault, some bad o-line play, penalties and drops.

The margins are thin in this game and we know for a fact that when things are executed....offense go vroom. It has maybe been underestimated just how horribly we have executed the last two years and it may not take much to completely flip the script.

I NEED SATURDAY.

I understand that but what I am saying is that he is a freak athlete and if he can keep it between the lines and the wheels down he'll put on a show. Hopefully while he is in Knoxville he'll behave, when he goes home all bets are off. If he plays his cards right I think he could be a legendary Vol.

I am pumped too. Fron my listening these are easily the 2 most athletic lines we've had since Fulmer. The OL is stacked with tackle level length even at the guards.
