Recruiting Forum Football Talk IV

People need to accept that despite some successes, we've obviously struggled with recruiting. The reasons why could be numerous, but it's an obvious problem to be concerned about. Recruiting HAS to improve. Saying that does not translate to "fire Heupel!" like some seem to believe. Coach Heupel has done a tremendous job of coaching this team but recruiting has to be fixed. Hell, he'd probably say so himself.

cool story but saying that gets us where exactly?

Exactly. The offense that we runs schemes guys wide open anyway. We have playmakers on the roster.

Getting open is one thing.. catching the football is quite another. Hyatt and Calloway have yet to be consistent with regard to catching the football. Hyatt had many drops and Calloway dropped a crucial pass that swung momentum back to Florida. I’m not sure either are longterm options.

Does anybody else just hate college sports sometimes?

oh dude, just hang around the forum for this stretch:

Jan 22 (Sat) 6 PM Home LSU Knoxville (Thompson-Boling Arena)

Jan 26 (Wed) 6 PM Home Florida Knoxville (Thompson-Boling Arena)

Jan 29 (Sat) 8 PM Away Texas Austin, TX

I got blasted in the Jared Verse thread for stating my recruiting concerns (on a football forum). It’s amazing how Tenn fans “understand” why “Texas kids” sign with Texas, but always have some lame explanation as to why elite Tennessee kids sign with anyone BUT Tennessee. Both programs have been dumpster fires in recent years. It must be the 💰.
its an area of concern.

I think they need some help for sure.

Stating an opinion as fact and demanding it be addressed…. VolNation 101.

I mean, that's probably true, but yet this staff still felt the need to go after Neyor. They wanted him. So now that he chose Texas it's no big deal?

Posters say, "trust the staff", which I do, but ignore it was that same staff that wanted this kid.

What opinion? That we've struggled with recruiting? That's not an opinion. We've targeted 3 guys in the portal and missed on all 3. That's called struggling.

Differing opinions are not welcome on this board. Only blind sheep allowed.

id say its easier to be one of the sheep on here that loves to complain about getting our butts kicked on the recruiting/portal trail and its worrisome and there is no plan and we have no NIL and why cant we get TN kids to want to play for TN and we have no recruiters and no stars and

I wanted Neyor more than anyone on this board. He was my avatar as soon as he entered the portal, before reports of our staff being all over him.

He stood out to me during their bowl game in particular when he was clearly the best player on the field.

He has great speed.
He has good size.
He can jump high, his hangtime is ridiculous.
He can high point the ball.
His hands are ridiculous.
He has playmaker ability in the open field.

Neyor would have been a beast in our offense. If we were going to plug him in the way that we used Payton, he would have been incredible.

That doesn't change the fact that we do have guys on this roster that can improve this offseason and be great. There is opportunity for someone else that chose to come here to make an impact. I don't doubt that someone(s) will rise to that challenge. We scheme guys open. Will they catch it? I hope. Will they be as great as Neyor in the open field? That would be hard to do, but I hope so.

This isn't like losing Hooker, or losing a 4-star transfer LB or CB. We have bigger positions of need. It sucks to lose a guy that could have replaced the production of the guys we have leaving at WR. This just gives someone else that we don't know about yet the chance to be the new man.
