Geno capitalized on what Pat built. Women's basketball is what it is because of Pat Summit.
May be but Pat won many of her championships when they only had to compete with the likes of Old Dominion and Louisiana Tech. Not taking away from Pat but the truth is plain to see.

That Pat built women's basketball? Yes, that truth is plain to see. Every coach in the game today owes her a debt of gratitude.

You are taking away from Pat. We don't need Tennessee fans to tell us who is better. Most of us would not trade her for any coach and it's not even close.

Man, that look some work. You must not have been as busy today.

I'm in. Heup! Go Vols!

Down time waiting for plumber to come find and fix a busted pipe...

Once I started typing, it just flowed. I haven’t truly felt like this since Coach Cut left the second time. After the NC game, the fire slowly went out (not from me, it took a decade to beat it out of me)...

Optimism shall flow unabated from here on out. I feel reborn truthfully. Coaches that thrive on the challenge!

The women’s game wasn’t strong during either one of their runs..... a little stronger during gene’s but not even close to comparable to the men’s games. It can be debatable whether it was harder during geno’s run or when you have to fight for everything she got like Pat did..... Noy to mention, Pat won back to back championships right before her illness started to affect her.

Pat didn’t have a choice of when she was born or how the ladies basketball game was played. She was the forerunner of modern ladies basketball and was the foundation on with the current ladies game is placed. One can not take that away from nor should they try. Geno is a cheater and established his stats by cheating. True, he’s has won more titles than any other women’s coach, but I believe Pat did it the correct way. I take Pat ahead of all the current women’s coaches and they all owe her for where they are now.

He can learn his lesson somewhere else.
I’ve paid for my bad actions. Sometimes you ruin your opportunity and have to work your way back.
Nowhere did I say they didn’t deserve a second chance. But it should be somewhere else to earn the right to get back to where they want to be.
They should be taking their asses to Juco, D2, or just being off scholarship and off the team and having to pay for schoo in order to EARN the right to be back on this team.
I was just as ardent on Jeremy Banks. He had to EARN the right to be a vol again. And he did.

Banks wasn’t told to transfer. The coaches and players should determine what the consequences should be.

I would not have children if I went with your way of thinking.

Again, I ask: What are the true charges against them?

There are first time offenses that are not acceptable such as rape, child abuse/pedophile, major assault, murder, etc.
Unless those are the charges, I am willing to withhold my judgement and see what the team and coaches decide.

BGSU – If we have to start worrying about these sorts of games then it’s clear we blew the new coaching hire.

Pitt – Pitt has struggled on offense almost as bad as us in recent years, ranking 13th in the ACC last year. They did have some NFL talent on defense which help them win a few games but now those guys are history. In 2017, the before NFL guys on defense year, their defense was 11th in the ACC, then it jumped to #5 in 2018 (Josh Beat them, 45-14) then #3 in the ACC in 2019 (Josh didn’t beat them, lost by 1 point on the road) and this past year their defense was 2nd best in the ACC. I’m expecting with the departure of their NFL guys the defense drops back to middle of the pack or lower for the ACC. I’ll be surprised if they have much improvement on offense.

Tennessee Tech – We’ll probably score a hundred. I mean, hey, it’s all about having fun, right?

Florida - I think everyone knows that the key to Florida’s success the past couple of years was their explosive passing offense – which is now entirely gutted. They underperformed in 2020 due to a drop off in their defense from the previous year. This year they’ll have a brand new offense but their defense should improve. No one I can find thinks they’ll be pass happy this go round so if Rodney can stop their running game it likely gives us a chance – if our offense is working.

Kentucky – I went through our starting lineups for this past year and we return pretty much the same number of starters on both sides of the ball as the Wildcats. Kentucky is looking for a new QB as Wilson gave Stoops the bird and hit the transfer portal. They’re also looking for a new Mike and they have to replace an NFL CB. They lost their center and left tackle on offense. They have a new OC. He’s a google guy and learned his offensive system from the OC at Pitt which as previously noted hasn’t had much success in the ACC. While Stoops is at long last trying to modernize his offense with a bit of tempo and a more balanced attack the strength of the team talent wise still seems to be in their running backs. This is another mission for Rodney Garner. Right now it seems the leading candidate at QB is a redshirt freshman with the total experience of having completed 3 of 7 passes against SEC competition.

I think we likely have the edge against South Carolina and Vanderbilt for the time being and South Alabama is starting over this year so that leaves MO, UA, UGA, and OM. At this point I think we could have a good shot at at least 2 of those but everything is riding on how soon our new staff can get us up to speed.

I have some more work to do on our opponents and I’m not going to be giving us the benefit of the doubt but my early assessment is I don’t think this is like 2013 or 2018. It could be but I don’t think so and I don’t think this is like 2017 either. I’ve been looking at those 3 years in particular to compare where we’re at relative to then. And I think it’s also important to assess where our opponents will likely be this year and often times that has no relation at all to the impression they may have created the prior year.

I think everything for this upcoming season probably rides on how long it takes our players and staff to get on the same page. If we’re playing football like we were at Alabama in 2019 and can avoid mistakes then we could be pretty good but if we show up looking like we did against Georgia State, well, maybe not. We need to play with intensity and a passionate desire to win. Many of the guys on our roster were the critical players on teams that won high school championships. They know how to win. It takes want to. I don’t think you can force that, something Pruitt never learned. With Pruitt the team was all about him and his reputation. He didn’t care about nor respect his players and regardless of words he may have on occasion said otherwise I think most of them knew it. I think that’s probably one of the reasons the new staff has placed a high profile focus on earning the trust of the players and vice versa. Don’t take people for granted or don’t treat them as property, not if you do in fact care about them and want THEM to succeed. jmo.

Fellas I just had a great revelation and just had to get it out. I play in Pickleball tournaments with one of my best friends from high school. We both have young children and use these trips as a good getaway for us to be competitive and have some fun. This friend of mine is one that has struggled with drugs in the past. He has gotten clean, relapsed several times and has been clean for a couple of years now. This time I believe is the final time for this. In this time I have been there for him and his family. Some people have even asked me why I continue to associate with him and there has been worry about me going on these type of trips in the past due his rougher past. Our trips have evolved as well, when they started we took this as a time to get out and drink a bit as well. This time we are playing on a Sunday and through a rain delay we have watched two sermons which is something we would have never done in the past. In the middle of the second sermon I got to reflecting a little bit as to how our trips have evolved and how my friend has evolved to the point that we are actually sitting around watching taking in the good word watching a sermon while on a guys trip. It’s incredible how much the Lord continues to move and shape our lives.

God is so good Gentlemen and have a good Sunday.

Tennessee’s Trail of Tears –
2009 – The boy wonder’s lone year with us ended in abandonment.
2010 – Matt Simms was the QB
2011 – Bray and Hunter get injured – Worley tried.
2012 – Sal Sunseri
2013 – No QB
2014 – Josh Dobbs finally takes over
2015 – A bunch of young guys rocking and rolling
2016 – Defensive injuries and to critical guys – not enough depth
2017 – Back to no QB
2018 – Still no QB
2019 – QB musical chairs
2020 – Still looking for a QB
2021 – I think we have a QB – Don’t know which one it’s going to be because we actually have at least 2 legitimate QBs that I think are ready to play and I think we can probably win with either. I prefer Bailey but I think Hooker could get the job done too. I’m not totally ready to call this yet but when Golesh said yesterday that the team rallies around Bailey I took notice. jmo.

This is one of my favorite Hudl videos. The size mismatch is hilarious. The best play is at the 2:48 minute mark. jmo.

Great story. Thanks for sharing. I just didn’t realize you could have a rain delay for pickle ball. When I played it a long time ago, it was in a gym.

😳

Ladies and gentlemen, Vols of all ages, please gaze upon the above prime examples of untreated BVS. These poor individuals have been beaten for so long that they don’t see the difference in our new coaching staff.

The new coaching staff is different from our previous groups. They are used to getting more from the players through developing, teaching and I dare say scheming to the strength of the current players.

As my only needed exhibit, I present the Missouri Tigers. Look at the offense pre Heupel and then year one of Heupel. Extraordinary differences abound!

He has a dynamic flexible offense. He will scheme to the strength of the current players. He will scheme to the weaknesses of his opponents and equally as important, teach these very players what to look for quickly and simply to move the ball and score points.
Furthermore The Heupel has assembled a defensive staff that can also simplify the defensive schemes and use their strengths against opponents. This fall, you will see a defense not only be able to defend the slant, but jump the routes and actually intercept the ball! Who here amongst us is not willing to believe that The Garner will bring us a defensive line worthy of our praise.

The future will be bright for our Volunteers with this staff.

But hear ye and feel it in your very bones. There will be winning in Neyland again this very Fall! This team will look radically different from the last decade.

Throw off the mantle of BVS!
Embrace the Hype! Glory in the transformation! Who’s with me?

(Drops mic and runs through the nearest wall)
I figured we had a winner when I read what Bob Stoops said when he fired JH at Oklahoma. He said it was the hardest decision he's ever made when firing a coach. Someone had to go from that Oklahoma team and Stoops was not gonna fire his brother on defense. I really have my doubts about our fan base giving this staff enough time to get their players here though.
