So what are some of the issues of hiring a coordinator to be our head coach? What have we learned?
  • They have to learn to be a CEO – Pruitt, in his first year, said he spent way too much time trying to set up his program and not enough with the team, thus he lost the team. He addressed the flaw in his relationship to his players by claiming he would be better the next year then began the season with a loss to Georgia State. smh.
  • They have to assemble a staff for the first time and take the leadership role of that staff – This is not an easy job – you’re in charge now and if you don’t know what you’re doing in your new role it could be a challenge to keep all the egos on your staff meshing well. Butch brought most of his staff with him because he at least new the chemistry they had built together was a tremendous asset. Pruitt had to assemble a staff from scratch. He brought in a lot of his supposedly friends and many of them likely ended up hating his guts before they left. The staff turnover seemed to be unprecedented. Even if everyone loves you that alone will not make you a good commander.
  • One of the downfalls of first time head coaches (Orgeron, Pruitt, etc.) is they want to micromanage everything. They’ve been around the game for a while and they have their own way of wanting things done. The other people on your staff are going to get tremendously pissed at you if you interfere with them doing their job. It’s an in your face insult. Pruitt apparently excelled at this but by his own admission so did Orgeron. I’m sure those were not the only isolated cases. Part of it is just being too damn cocky, narcissistic, or generally not showing professional courtesy and respect for others.
What are some other concerns/lessons learned?

Well, I’ve been able to bounce some questions off of my friend given there is a blend of legitimate leaks, and bogus ones among local journalists. It’s Franklin. It was Franklin Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday and today. They’ve believed it’s been wrapped up since Sunday night, but taking steps forward has stalled more than once. This is the only real offer that has been made. We did not offer Dykes, Fleck or anyone else. Based on past conversations, I still think Elliot is 2. I don’t know that as a fact. They had hoped to have a team meeting last night, then this morning. There is not currently anything on the schedule for this afternoon either. That doesn’t sound good if you like the idea of Franklin. That said, my friend says they’ve been agreed on general terms since Sunday. He has no idea why it hasn’t crossed the finish line. Everything he’s heard is that it’s Franklin, but nothing is moving in a way that indicates the normal next steps. It could just be slowly moving forward or coming off the rails. My friend says it’s Franklin until he hears otherwise.
Just want to clarify that the end of my post is as important as the beginning. I believe that we’ve made one offer only, and that is JF. My friend is noticeably worried that we’re on day three after agreeing to basic terms. I think it better wrap up today. I can’t imagine that it could drag on now that it’s in the news. It’s got to become public or it’ll die.

Well, well, well. They better do this quick or we are going to witness our crazy fanbase sending death threats and scare him off.

James Franklin.....

*groans*

Talk about hiring the one guy that TN fans despise. I can’t believe DW thinks that highly of this guy.

I’m just....give me Chadwell over Franklin. Having Franklin as the face of Tennessee Football just rubs me the wrong way and will be hard to get excited about.
I despise lots of coaches. But if they're winners, I'd despise them a whole lot less the moment they became our coach.

If SF is right, it makes me think Franklin was #2. Maybe #1 is still mulling it over and we haven't ruled him out yet? That could be why there's been a delay. Just a positive thought.

Could also be why Elliot and Chadwell is floating around too. It makes sense to be in contact with those guys while you're trying to land Franklin so if he does finally deliver a firm no, you can act quickly with a hire and be ready.

I know it doesn't matter - I'm just one man who spends a few hundred bucks a year on the program. But I'm not getting behind a James Franklin led football team. I don't care about wins that much.
Keep that same energy when Salter and Franklin lead us to a win in the swamp next year.

Just my opinion: I think JF and Schiano are two very different situations. Both in the allegations and also in our fan base response. JF was cleared and vetted by PSU. Will be by Parker as well.

Fan base was frustrated with Schiano bc we waited for “Gruden” or big fish while Currie was hanging in Bahamas. He sucks as a coach plus was linked to one of the worst scandal in NCAA history.

No doubt. This place should be studied and textbooks should be written about it.
No matter if the AD allows information to leak out or keeps it very tight lipped, Vols fans will complain and spin it however best suits their narrative. He was rated the 4th best AD last year and with those credentials, I choose to wait until his hire and support that HC the best I can. I will think DW will do the best he can with the mess this school is in and I'm all for it. No fans have any insight to what is being said behind closed doors, so complaining about something that hasn't even happened just creates more anger and divisiveness.
In the end, we all want to see the HC succeed no matter who it is.

Go Vols!

JAMES. FRANKLIN. IS. CURRENTLY. BEING. SUED. BY. TWO. PEOPLE. FOR. HIS. ALLEGED. CONDUCT.

How the hell are you gonna preach integrity and the hire a guy who is being sued by two people for abhorrent conduct???
HAVE. YOU. READ. THE. LAWSUIT?

It list him but also acknowledges he had no involvement
