ok, more context here. and the two names that i immediately think of while reading this are Fickle and Campbell....and won't be upset if it's either. They like the idea of somebody younger with experience and upside-- somebody that brings a fresh perspective and is a good counterbalance to old-school Steele. I think P5 is a preference more than a must, and I think some of the big names will be a fast no. The program builder aspect is tricky, but it's important to get someone who can clean things up and get the most out of the roster we have to make us competitive sooner rather than later. Like most schools, we'll have to compromise on some things to make the best hire we can.
I agree and also think Hyams days are numbered. There's no chance he's getting any more info from UT. Especially after his twitter tirade yesterday. He may get a little from some booster friends of his, but most of his booster friends are Fulmer guys I believe. I highly doubt they stay in the loop as much as they were.I think Hubbs, AP, and the like are panicking right now from a business perspective. Fulmer is gone, there's a brand new Chancellor and Prez who seem to be operating differently than those in years past, and they just hired a new AD that comes from outside the UT ecosystem. At the moment, they are in the dark, have no sources, and their opinion is probably no more informed than random person's in this thread.
Whites hire preference in the past is a good indicator of potential hires. But I would base my whole argument around it. He was a G5 AD who had to make the brand exciting down at UCF and that makes a lot of sense. I also don’t think he’ll shut the door on a teir 1 coach simply because he’s a defensive minded coach here though. Just my thoughts.Won’t be fickle he’s defensive minded coach
It's a closed circle. If anyone's leaking names, it's more likely to be on the agent side and they may not have the latest intel. And some talking are trying to get names in play.
Is he smarter than Butch and Dooley? What does intelligence have to do with being the right guy? His track record is certainly not more impressive than Pruitt's was. He's smarter and better than Pruitt in every way...not even close
I love Matt Campbell too. I worry that he is a Midwestern/Ohio guy heading to recruit in the South. He's a big name that's for sure, and there is precedent a guy like him can be very successful in the SEC, see Urban Meyer, and to a lesser extent Nick Saban.
I'm definitely overthinking all of this though, I can guarantee that.
