I just can't figure out who the **** that is. Gotta be a young guy, but what young guys out there are truly established at a power 5 school besides Lincoln Riley? and you can't really consider him a program builder because he took over what Stoops left him which was loaded. Matt Campbell? Seems super unlikely for either of them.

They like the idea of somebody younger with experience and upside-- somebody that brings a fresh perspective and is a good counterbalance to old-school Steele. I think P5 is a preference more than a must, and I think some of the big names will be a fast no. The program builder aspect is tricky, but it's important to get someone who can clean things up and get the most out of the roster we have to make us competitive sooner rather than later. Like most schools, we'll have to compromise on some things to make the best hire we can.

I love Matt Campbell too. I worry that he is a Midwestern/Ohio guy heading to recruit in the South. He's a big name that's for sure, and there is precedent a guy like him can be very successful in the SEC, see Urban Meyer, and to a lesser extent Nick Saban.

I'm definitely overthinking all of this though, I can guarantee that.
UT recruits itself. Any decent coach can sign a top 15 class here. A winning coach can easily sign top 5 classes.

Campbell still feels like a pipe dream to me.

Fickell, on the other hand, can be won over. He *almost* took the Michigan State job last year. He is willing to move if the deal is right, and I believe he respects Danny White - they know each other from Ohio State and AAC meetings.

Would go against the "offensive mind" we're supposedly targeting, but maybe that's not a steadfast rule.
I thought the same until the AD hire. Danny White was a pipe dream at one point as well. Who knows. If I’m Campbell making 3.5 and Tenn offers 7, you’d have to at least make the trip out there right?

Ha! I should be asking you.

I have an idea of two names I personally love who I think we're targeting, but opinions are mixed on this board. I've got the rep as the bad list guy so I'll leave it at that.
I get the feeling Hank is going to be very happy… I think it’s going to be Fleck. He checks every single box of what White wants in his head coach at Tennessee. Not sure how I would feel about it, however, white has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that he knows exactly what he’s doing, and I will trust him to get it right.

The love affair with Kiffin is nauseating. There are way better head coaching candidates out there that won't leave as soon as a better offer comes around (USC again, Bama, NFL, etc..).

You obviously don't know how contracts work and how you can assure he doesn't just leave.

Its been said that many coaches are swayed away from this job because you have to face Saban every year. I don't know when it happens but I'd say saban's years are numbered. He's 69 and seems to be going strong but I can't imagine him going much longer.

We got to swallow our pride a bit and give an offer to Kiffin. That’s him to a T. He checks a ton of boxes, and this isn’t coming from someone who was ever thinking I’d want him back here and at times was actively rooting for him to fail. Just go get Kiffin and let’s start kicking some ass around here again.
