Is it because of the Rooney Rule or is it because attitudes were naturally changing as society has evolved? Rhetorical question because there's no way to answer with certainty. Do you believe minority coaches should be hired simply because they are a minority? I don't. That doesn't benefit the idea of equality. Opportunity is earned. It shouldn't be given. A person shouldn't advance just because they are white, but a person shouldn't advance just because they are black either. That's not the society we should be striving for.
I think the Rooney Rule has helped qualified black candidates get an opportunity to interview who otherwise would have been passed over. It has forced the mormalization of considering black candidates. Once they have their foot in the door, I dont thinkcthey should get any preferential hiring treatment based on race. The best person for job should be hired in every instance.

Do not leave Matt Campbells home until he gets everything that he wants.
Campbell still feels like a pipe dream to me.

Fickell, on the other hand, can be won over. He *almost* took the Michigan State job last year. He is willing to move if the deal is right, and I believe he respects Danny White - they know each other from Ohio State and AAC meetings.

Would go against the "offensive mind" we're supposedly targeting, but maybe that's not a steadfast rule.

Maybe you and I have a different definition of what falling dramatically is but this is how I’d define it

Shaw:
First 6 years 62-17 .785 winning %
Last 4 years 26-20 .565winning %

Patterson
First 10 years 103-23 .818 winning %
Last 7 years 52-34 .605 winning %

Those are seriously dramatic drops to me

I agree with Shaw. I think he got a lot of love riding the Harbaugh train. He is not good at recruiting. You see what happened with Mason. The guy was lost recruiting in this league and he was a Shaw guy. No reason Stanford should be on decline in that conference.

Patterson I disagree with. TCU is such a hard place to consistently recruit to and have consistency. There are always going to be ups and down and he has a lot more ups than downs. Patterson would be an outstanding hire here. I’d be more confident in his ability to have success here than shaw

Keep in mind when thinking about timeline, the first question in the AD interviews was certainly “who are you hiring to fix the football program?” White’s answer to that was surely a big factor in him getting the job.
I'm not so sure it was, I think they asked him who he would talk too. But a guy with his reputation, you pitch your vision to him and and assure him you'll give the resources he needs and authority to make decisions as he sees fit. You start trying to pigeon hole a guy like that with who he targets and he walks away. That's been our problem recently with the AD. His hire signals a huge change in the way business is done at Tennessee regarding athletics.

This is just me ok but I would love a new face. No retreads that have been here before. Just so ready for a different direction than the same old circle of coaches we talk about. I will support whoever they walk out there because for the first time UT has the right attitude and are fed up with the same ole same ole. And IF IF IF it happen to be Lane ok let's rock but I have a feeling its going to be a top candidate that has never been here before.

I can promise you we're not going to slow-play this thing just so we can make UCF feel good about us taking their athletic director.

I don’t see a hire next Friday as slow playing anything.

I hope you guys are right but in the grand scheme of things 3-4 days doesn’t matter

Elliot is not a HC and it’s been stated multiple times they want a proven winner and active HC with p5 experience so why keep bringing his name up?

Maybe Fickell with Elliott as OC. Now THAT’S FU money.
