I think the Rooney Rule has helped qualified black candidates get an opportunity to interview who otherwise would have been passed over. It has forced the mormalization of considering black candidates. Once they have their foot in the door, I dont thinkcthey should get any preferential hiring treatment based on race. The best person for job should be hired in every instance. Is it because of the Rooney Rule or is it because attitudes were naturally changing as society has evolved? Rhetorical question because there's no way to answer with certainty. Do you believe minority coaches should be hired simply because they are a minority? I don't. That doesn't benefit the idea of equality. Opportunity is earned. It shouldn't be given. A person shouldn't advance just because they are white, but a person shouldn't advance just because they are black either. That's not the society we should be striving for.
Campbell still feels like a pipe dream to me.Do not leave Matt Campbells home until he gets everything that he wants.
Maybe you and I have a different definition of what falling dramatically is but this is how I’d define it
Shaw:
First 6 years 62-17 .785 winning %
Last 4 years 26-20 .565winning %
Patterson
First 10 years 103-23 .818 winning %
Last 7 years 52-34 .605 winning %
Those are seriously dramatic drops to me
I'm not so sure it was, I think they asked him who he would talk too. But a guy with his reputation, you pitch your vision to him and and assure him you'll give the resources he needs and authority to make decisions as he sees fit. You start trying to pigeon hole a guy like that with who he targets and he walks away. That's been our problem recently with the AD. His hire signals a huge change in the way business is done at Tennessee regarding athletics.Keep in mind when thinking about timeline, the first question in the AD interviews was certainly “who are you hiring to fix the football program?” White’s answer to that was surely a big factor in him getting the job.
Maybe Fickell with Elliott as OC. Now THAT’S FU money.Campbell still feels like a pipe dream to me.
Fickell, on the other hand, can be won over. He *almost* took the Michigan State job last year. He is willing to move if the deal is right, and I believe he respects Danny White - they know each other from Ohio State and AAC meetings.
Would go against the "offensive mind" we're supposedly targeting, but maybe that's not a steadfast rule.
