If this recruiting class falls completely apart, there's legitimately no reason to keep Pruitt, but it puts the next coach in a really bad spot. Especially if the one time transfer rule passes. Makes me fear that coaches would not want to come and face that kind of rebuild, because that's what it would be.

They don't, because they didn't see this coming.
Have they not read from the good book of Littlefinger?

"Fight every battle everywhere, always, in your mind. Everyone is your enemy, everyone is your friend. Every possible series of events is happening all at once. Live that way and nothing will surprise you. Everything that happens will be something that you’ve seen before.”

I respect the posters here that relay info from inside the program, and I’m not claiming to have inside info here, but Pruitt’s done. He’s not coming back next season.

This thing is unraveling before our eyes, and in such a way that makes Pruitt’s failure inevitable. Fulmer, Boyd, and the boosters may not want to do it, and it might not be convenient for them, but their hand is about to be forced. I hope they have a good succession plan.

I can't help but feel like we've got at least another 10 years of suck ahead of us.

....and probably at least two more coaches. I have zero faith the AD will get it right this time.

There is a guy right now that knows how to beat Saban and Smart almost blatantly lobbying for the job and we are figuring out how to overhaul current coaching staffs to keep the bammer on board that hasn’t come close to beating the big three, much less beating KY and Ark.

It’s unreal.

So does a blowout to A&M making 7 straight losses by double digits do it or will it take losing to Vandy if we even play?

We're a week and a half from the early signing period, and I'm afraid of how ugly it could get.

He's waiting on Tennessee.
Yes, the dealbreaker was when Phil told him that with Tennessee’s private jet, he can maintain regular office hours and still have dinner at his restaurant in Columbus, then be in bed in Knoxville by 11.

There, I’ve planted it. Within two days it will be a legit argument being made on here. With my blessing, of course, because funs.

Wonder what the coaching market will look like next year, when we actually fire Pruitt?

I don't see how he survives this year, tbh. We never had this much constant and near unanimous talk of firing with either Butch or Dooley. We did have it with Cuonzo and while the mouthpieces were telling us nothing was changing behind the scenes it was certainly changing.

As dysfunctional as the administration is, I don't expect it to happen. Also, I want it to happen, which means it probably won't.

Can't get too much uglier.

If you have 2 ex Vols leave their positions here, it is not a good look. Regardless of the profession and it's pitfalls.

Coaches....I do not have an answer there. Who is there really who is "proven"? Only Urban, and, ..........about it.

It is not out of the realm of possibility to field a team next year of many transfers, a mixed bag of kids who like our program, need change. Maybe, that is the spark to winning.....

Loosing recruits.....well, considering how many times they do not pan out regardless of reason, not worried about any high school kid who isn't an instant can't miss starter and contributor, which is rare and never guaranteed anyway.

Team issues are the same as they have been. No QB. No D or O line. Without these 2, you do not win.

Add in all of our seemingly never to be left behind baggage, and, there really is no answer. The hole has been dug for about 2 decades, and it is not the football program which is to be held accountable, but, the entire establishemnt around it.

Long post incoming:

I believe Hugh Freeze should be the next coach and I am holding out hope that the powers that be will slowly but surely come to this realization.

Freeze would have the best shot to salvage the recruiting class. His name is recognizable as are many players he coached that are balling out on sundays. Most recruits would at least listen.

Freeze has competed in the SEC and gone toe to toe in all facets of the sport with the big boys and had his fair share of wins. He slipped up, made too many mistakes and fell on his face and had all of his dirty laundry exposed publically. Was disgraced as a coach and a man. He's been climbing out of that hole ever since and seems to have put some pieces of his life back together and is proving he still has more coaching left in him. We need a coach who's been there before and he needs a team to give him one more chance.

This may not be popular but I'm fine with us waiting until the season is over to fire Pruitt. The writing is on the wall either way. The fans want change and they have forced it before and would do it again if they had to. I do think Fulmer deserves the time to let Pruitt go with dignity and allow him to finish the season if he believes that's what's right. We should show class in all things we do. Because we're Tennessee and that's who we are. I believe Freeze will still be available. I think he will wait and make a strong case for himself to be our next coach. I also think we have to at least give him big time consideration. It's time to have some guts. The losing has to stop.

Thinking about the football side of if, Freeze could be so good for Shrout/Bailey/Salter... He might also attract a transfer like the Milton kid from UCF. We just gotta find one guy that can play. Throwing to Palmer/Wideman/Hyatt. Eric Gray the workhorse behind a pretty talented oline. The bones for success are there to do some big things right away. I'm borderline salivating just thinking about it.

It's incredible that we suck honestly. Like why? How can we not score points? There is no huge talent gap. We've been bad at QB for sure but the issue runs deeper than that. This team didn't come together. I don't see love out there. Great teams love each other and fight for each other. It just looks like everybody is on their own playing for themselves. This is a sign of the end.

We've been at the bottom. So has Hugh Freeze. We need somebody to inspire us again. This is a coach with an inspiring story of redemption and a reputation for good offense. Bring him home.

If Fulmer had any balls, he'd be on the phone talking to Bob Stoops and, even though I despise him, Urban Meyer, and making them tell him no. Then it should be Mario Cristobal and Matt Campbell. Make them tell you no. Then, if Texas fires him, Tom Herman. We've already had one guy Texas got rid of that has worked out pretty well for us. Hell, call Chris Petersen and see if he wants to return to coaching. If you miss on those guys, swallow your pride and call Hugh Freeze. I don't really expect Fulmer to do that, but if the other guys tell you no.... But I doubt Fulmer starts at the top. Given our past experience with coaching searches, he probably starts with Napier and Chadwell. For whatever reason, our admin does not believe in aiming high.

But none of it really matters, because even though it should happen now, it won't. Pruitt will be our coach next year, and we will be miserable.
