Many donors feel that way. Everyone I know is disappointed and disgusted. But... UT wants any transition to be a smooth one, which means the last thing leadership wants is to make a knee-jerk firing with no succession plan. The last time UT had a smooth transition plan was when Hamilton fired Fulmer and had Kiffin waiting in the wings. Three times after that, UT looked like leftovers nobody wanted.

Last year ended great, this year started great, recruiting was going great, the staff looked great-- and everyone loved Pruitt and thought Fulmer was a genius. Then we start losing, and everyone hates Pruitt and thinks Fulmer is an idiot. Just wait till the Gators get a chomp at us, with some of our key players in protocol.
Aw hell. This game is fixing to be 72-17

We don't need another learn-on-the-job head coach. Jerod Mayo may be the next great head coach but he's never been a head coach on any level. TN shouldn't be the proving grounds for up and coming head coaches.
Kingston be like,

“Ok, first things first.... no head coaching experience? Check...”

I'm just not sure it matters that much if the coaching experience is like 42-35 at Toledo or 97-96 at BFE State University.

If we get the right guy, I'm all for it. Otherwise I am totally cool to roll the dice on a VFL.

According to Texas mods on 247 big donors have agreed to pay the $25mil buyout to fire Herman. And apparently there’s a deal on the table for Urban Meyer - 5 years 12/mil per. Oil money must be fun.
I predicted Meyer would agree to coach UT. I actually said Tennessee, but I meant UT.

Tee Martin is a terrible idea, every former vol will expect a spot on staff or full access to the program and Tennessee will become an even bigger circus not to mention those same people will try to make it impossible to fire him after he goes winless in the conference for 3 straight years

Oh I think it matters. I think Urbans time at Utah was huge before florida. Remember Utah wasn’t power 5 then

Tee over Candle, for sure.

Freeze must have messed around with Sankey wife or something
Well, it’s not the best look when you’re supposed to be a role model for young men & you’re cheating on your wife while hiring hookers. So yeah. Not the best look for someone that is supposed to lead your young men and all that.

Ya'll pay any attention to what other candidate names did?

Napier hung 70 on UL Monroe....hell I don't care who you play or where, I can't for the life of me ever remember UT hanging 70 on anyone.

I just looked it up, it was September 23, 2000 against UL Monroe... (I'm pretty much positive Napier is the next HC at UT, this is a sign)
Um, Tennessee beat UL Monroe 70-3, in the 2000 season.

Urban was 22-2 at Utah you dork

I didn’t read your entire post my apologies. I thought you were saying head coaching experience wasn’t important and I disagree with that.

But yea if someone is a .500 coach at a non power 5 school over a long period of time like your Op said that is important but in a bad way. Like disqualifying

It’s easy this year even if you don’t want Freeze.

Napier - 26-11 (defeated Matt Campbell this year)
Chadwell - 77-51 and would be better if you take out his interim year when they went 3-9.

Could you imagine if we hung with UF with HB starting?! The Pruitt hate would be 10 fold!
Our D isn’t going to stop them, but their D isn’t great either.
I could only imagine if it turns into an offensive showdown with HB.
(Desperate and wishful thinking I know)

I’m intrigued by your opinion that a CEO type AD would have a higher degree of knowledge of what a successful coach should look like.

For me I’ll take a once successful national title winner over an administrative person that climbed the ladder

They aren’t exclusive tho. There’s plenty of programs that have CEO type ADs and their football programs are way better than us.

If anything i would say the former football coach/AD has failed more than it has worked.

Everyone’s D is great against us.

I could see it. I dunno about the hate becoming tenfold but it would definitely bring some heat on that bald head about why he stuck with Jarrett so long.

Fulmer isn't pinching by not firing Pruitt. If anything it's a "kick the can down the road move". We expect turnover in the staff after the season and that means new contracts, with as large a buyout as they can negotiate considering the climate here. This isn't a saving money move.

Right. He just doesn't want to deal with the fallout of firing the guy he hired. Much easier to believe that staff changes will right the ship. That was Fulmer's MO for years as a head coach.

UF's philosophy is "what must be done eventually should be done immediately."

UT's philosophy is "what must be done eventually will maybe be done sometime in the foreseeable future."
