Fulmer isn't pinching by not firing Pruitt. If anything it's a "kick the can down the road move". We expect turnover in the staff after the season and that means new contracts, with as large a buyout as they can negotiate considering the climate here. This isn't a saving money move.

If he doesn't then no one does.

I think this is maybe oversimplified, but I do think we grossly misunderstood what trash position Fulmer was in after the Schianamo. Maybe this go around, with him at the helm from the beginning and a better roster generates better buzz. I would want to come coach Eric Gray, Bailey, To’oto’o and so on...

What I’m afraid of is not “if he doesn’t, then no one does” turns out to be “if he can’t, then no one can”

He should have hired Tee. Period. He could have groomed him (not a Bama lover), gave him all the resources Pruitt was given, and let him hire the best assistants he could get. We are past that experiment now and need a proven head coach, but he was told by many to go with Tee and he decided against it. Now we are close to going over a cliff.
Agreed. I can't tell you with certainty that Tee would have us in a better position than we are now if he were hired in 2017. I don't know that.

But, I think recruiting would have popped immediately because the fanbase would have been jacked up.

For the Fulmer fans, let's not forget he gave Gump a unearned extension that makes getting rid of him even more difficult.

Hope JP at least tries to act like he somewhat wants to be here next season.

Seriously--- how, or how will they recruit? What will they say/sell? We will really see how good of a recruiter he and moose are after this season and how bad he wants to be here and be successful, you will see it with recruiting. We may be singing 3* U again...

I think the extension was already built in. Similar to a retention bonus. Just because you don’t like the guy or the decision doesn’t mean you can spread an incorrect opinion. I’m upset as you are but sheesh

Listened to Matthews PC. Makes it seem like QB needs a QB coach, woc is due to bad coaching. Clean it up!

Not really. They got extremely lucky with two generational talents at QB. They struggled with SC before then.

Both of those generational talents are from Georgia. The rest of their roster is made of Georgia, Carolina, and Tennessee kids mixed in with some cherry-picked national talent. That sounds a whole like the heyday of Tennessee football to me.

You’re stuck in the past.
He knew how to win.
As a coach. he lost touch. It happens to a lot of good coaches.

I’m intrigued by your opinion that a CEO type AD would have a higher degree of knowledge of what a successful coach should look like.

For me I’ll take a once successful national title winner over an administrative person that climbed the ladder

The mistake was made when the hire was made. UT committed to giving the next guy five years to rebuild. Picking the wrong guy and giving him a sweetheart contract and extension was very costly-- even if he only gets four years.

When Fulmer in the off-season said “We’re Back”, I truly believe that he thought CJP had turned the corner in the winning streak at the end of last year. He truly believed CJP was going to get us to 9-10 (in a normal year) this season. That is why he extended him. Which I wanted more evidence along with others before doing something like that, but I can see his line of thinking. It has backfired big time. I think he is shocked at how poorly we have played.

I bet the tune changes when Pruitt goes 6-6 next year and Freeze has Liberty in the top 25 again while feeding the media he wants the UT job.

It can be done both ways but the athletic department has to pull in the same direction as well. That’s the hard part. Seems like it’s always hard to get the higher ups on the same page for whatever reason. They’re all numbers and dollar signs.

I think it is exactly right. Imagine where things would be had JG not swan-dove into the asphalt starting with the second half of the Georgia game.

So far, perhaps. But apathy is setting in and leadership shows zero aptitude and willingness to solve this.

I'm a premium seat owner. I chose to use the down times to improve my options, because I believed we were fixing it. I'm no longer convinced of that, and if my tickets hadn't rolled, I not sure I'd be renewing. I have no desire to spend that much money to watch my team get humiliated. I'm not alone.

Many donors feel that way. Everyone I know is disappointed and disgusted. But... UT wants any transition to be a smooth one, which means the last thing leadership wants is to make a knee-jerk firing with no succession plan. The last time UT had a smooth transition plan was when Hamilton fired Fulmer and had Kiffin waiting in the wings. Three times after that, UT looked like leftovers nobody wanted.

Last year ended great, this year started great, recruiting was going great, the staff looked great-- and everyone loved Pruitt and thought Fulmer was a genius. Then we start losing, and everyone hates Pruitt and thinks Fulmer is an idiot. Just wait till the Gators get a chomp at us, with some of our key players in protocol.
