We hired White specifically because he's good at finding less obvious hires. Most coaches we're discussing are really obvious. Hard to expect the obvious home run types, who are already turning down big time jobs including nfl, to leave good situations like the one Campbell is in. I think White has a better chance to get them to listen, and we can throw enough money to make it happen with someone maybe. But Campbell has never seemed like the guy that will make that move to us imo. Just pure wishful thinking.

@HankHill What are your thoughts on Chadwell? Not in comparison to Elliott but just overall as a coach.

Please @Atlanta VOL re-confirm for us it’s a current head coach we’re getting and talk me off the Tony Elliot ledge.

Feel the same here.... Elliot may be an amazing coach but I can’t imagine this being a very exciting outcome after all this!

They are not all that similar at all. Fleck is a culture guy. And really good at it. Butch had no idea how to install a great culture. The only reason the comparison is made is because of the slogans. It's a lazy comparison. I do agree with you that none of what I just pointed out will matter to many UT fans. They will be standoffish and will need results to buy-in. But they are not even close to the same coach.

Fair enough. I was thinking more of a perception standpoint. And Fleck would definitely get that Butch Jones label from a lot of fans...until he started winning.

Of course i was excited about him but he had a lot of red flags. Certainly a lot more than Elliot. I’m not even sure Elliot has one? Outside of he unknown of haven’t been a HC but like i said before i think being the HC at Tennessee is much like being the president. You’re never truly prepared for this job until you have it. I don’t think being a head coach at Coastal Carolina or Iowa state or Minnesota is anymore preparing you than being a coordinator or a position coach.

I have a different thought on the Elliot leak. My thought is that White knows about the leaks coming out of UT and maybe floated the Elliot name to see where it came from. That's a pretty common practice when you're trying to find the source of a leak.

That's just a guess on my part because I've seen the tactic first hand in the corporate environment.

My thought as well. Just running some water through the AD to see where the cracks are.

Something that we need to keep in mind is the NCAA hasn't done an investigation yet. I can't help but think that AD White will want to hire someone that the NCAA will look at and say that UT is trying to clean things up. Could you really say that about Elliot, seeing as there is no track record as to how he'd run a program?

It's kinda like your credit history (not credit score, just history) ... all it is, is a record of how you pay your bills.
No coordinators who will be first time HC's have a record of how they'd run a program.

I’m ready to ride with Elliott. Turned down the Seahawks & dolphins for their OC interviews. Turned down a chance to interview at Auburn.

Dude is a stud coach no doubt. He can recruit his balls off, hell of a play caller, & arguably *the* top assistant in college football. I just hope he’s ready for a head coaching gig.
