I've went back and forth on this. I'm torn. Ultimately recruiting is the most important, and if we lose more games that could hurt recruiting. But, the team would be better in 2021 if we get Bailey experience now. It's a tough question. If we're going to take a risk with HB and the young guys, I'd call all of the recruits and tell them what we're doing, "we may lose a few games guys, but we'll be better off for it in 2021" and make sure they were understanding and that the results on the field didn't scare them. Of course, with the way JG is currently playing, he is broken, I'm not sure it makes a difference tbh.
I’m rolling with Bailey personally just for the return on investment for next season. You’re not competing for the East this year so likely you’re only competing for a bowl game and if you give Bailey the reps now, we’re probably good enough in other spots to still win the necessary amount of games to make a bowl game. Use that momentum, the extra bowl practices and hopefully a normal offseason to continue to develop the other guys and be ready to push for the East next year.

Bailey is used to being thrown out there. His FR year Marietta went 3-7 and he got killed out there, but we started like 16 FR and 3 SO's. He was so much better his SO year in the playoffs where he threw for 338 and 5 tds against the eventual state champs. By his SR year we were killing people and won a state championship. The experience, even if rough, will help him exponentially next season.

Has anyone else noticed that JG lines up closer to LOS this year as opposed to previous years? I did not notice with Shrout and Bailey. JG looks like he is closer to center than most QBs in the shotgun

I think alot of people want JG to start to initiate his journey to Valhalla and then ride with Bailey the rest of the way.
I don’t know where I am on this. There was a poll last winter in the FF that asked if you wanted JG back for 2020, I voted no for exactly the reasons we’re seeing right now . Not just him playing poorly, but everything associated with it. The football forum is reason enough with all the screwball threads and the personal appearance attacks on coaches and crap like that. It’s mind boggling how some of our fans think. Like there is some easy fix or that this could’ve been easily avoided. I don’t think it’s as cut and dry as people want it to be. Jeremy Pruitt has lived good football, produced great football. He didn’t get stupid all of a sudden.
Part of me thinks that this world is crazy enough that JG could start on Saturday and play with a mindset of redemption from last years Bama debacle combined with the past 2 games and play decent. The other part of me wants to wipe the slate clean and move on. I know that we’ve played 10 good quarters of football and 6 really, really bad quarters of football. I know what’s in there, but is JG mentally stable enough to handle anymore? I have no idea.

Everyone makes a bowl game this year in spite of record. We could not win another game and we will still have a bowl game.

Our commits are watching our games. Our heavily recruited targets are watching our games. More of the same doesn’t help them make an informed decision. There’s a visible lack of energy and a loss of faith on the field for all to see. Gotta switch it up.

Oh yeah I forgot they waived the win requirement. There’s no reason not to play him then. You’ll likely lose Maurer and Shrout and that will just leave Salter and Bailey for next year so we need to sign at least one more QB via transfer or wherever if those guys do leave.

Would you all rather go 4-6 with HB as the starter or 5-5 with JG as the starter? This is a tough one for me because I want to win every game but I think with JG it is past the point of no return with most fans. Everyone is ready for him to move on.

We aren’t going 5-5 with JG at starter.

JG takes the wind out of sails for the rest of the team. When he makes mistakes nobody feels like he will recover. A QB who can make some plays in between the mistakes is what we need. The QB is the leader of more than just the offense. They lead the team. You always see shots of Russell Wilson telling the defense “just get us the ball back” and bringing the energy to everybody. JG does not supply that energy. If fact it’s the opposite, he is the one who steals that energy from the team. You have to go a different direction. Shrout looked scared to finally get on the field. Give me Maurer or Bailey. I don’t think they lack for confidence.

He absolutely takes the wind out of my sails.

JT isn’t going anywhere man. The guy will get his degree and just grad transfer to a lesser school back in California to ball out for a season.

You are going to see alot of 4-6, 5-5, and 6-4 records. The haves are Bama and UGA....then the rest. Maybe UF and A&M are a little better.
Correct, and the distance between us is magnified further in a year like this. This year looks like we will likely finish in the bottom third or just above that line but I'm hoping we can improve down the stretch to middle of the SEC. I don't see us flipping recruits or closing with anyone else. I see us focusing our energy on keeping this class together.

i have said multiple times about qb's being ready/not ready etc.....for this season and why that makes sense for JG to continue to play.

at the end of the day where we are right now, the only true "known" is that JG is the same as he's ever been.

so even if that equates to another finish like last year where we play musical chairs with him coming off the bench to redeem himself, i don't know how much success that translates in to the future....it certainly isn't going to make me feel confident that we're on our way.....like last year did. i was extremely hopeful for this season, given improvement at QB, would be relatively big for us. 2020 being basically a carbon copy of 2019 does not make me feel the same about 21........

so if it were me, i'd be giving Maurer and Bailey their shot. and coming out of the Bama game, one of them gets the job, and we work like hell over the bye week to get ready for Ark and beyond.....take our lumps but you start preparing for 21 wholistically.

it helps teh coaches really zero in on what we'd need to do this off season, what we're strong at and need to accentuate, what needs work, and what we can show rercruits going forward.....and really build game plans, philsophies, personnel groupings etc...around those things.

i'm not excited about the prospects of going 4-6 or 5-5. i'm even less excited if we do that and go in to next season with a host of uinknowns on the offensive side of the ball, biggest of which being what we got at QB in the Post JG era...........................

2021...start it now.

I agree, but I feel like Pruitt is between a rock and hard place given that it’s Bama. People want Bailey, but from all accounts he doesn’t have the reps and do we want to give him his first start against Saban? I’m sure plenty will argue their reasons for that, but I understand being hesitant in doing so. I’m fact I’d say start him in every other game remaining on the schedule. Especially given that we have a bye after the Bama game.
To me, starting JG is basically conceding a loss. It's saying we expect to lose. Even if that's reality, a football coach should never concede a game before it's played. If one game is going to rattle HB, that in itself is a problem IMO. QB has to have the mental toughness to spring back from a tough loss. If HB isn't mentally tough, I think that puts us right back to the dilemma we have with JG. But if you don't want to play HB, play Maurer. Just not JG. It feels like we're giving up before we even play if we continue the "JG is our best option" narrative.
