Loudest Tennessee game for me by far was ‘98 Arkansas at Neyland. It was so loud when we recovered Stoerner’s fumble that I could not hear myself screaming at the top of my lungs. Amazingly, it got louder than that when Henry scored the winning touchdown. The roar of the crowd was an actual pressure against my entire body. It was truly impressive.
After the game, I was walking back to my car. I realized that there were 5 college age guys harassing and older couple decked out in Arkansas gear. I trotted up. In an extremely loud voice ( only volume that I could hear) I told these guys in no uncertain terms that they were done being rude to our guests. If they wanted to act like typical gator fans, then they were going to take off the Tennessee gear immediately. I told them that I was embarrassed by their behavior and that they were going to apologize immediately. (Surprisingly, the Arkansas couple had stopped to listen). The leader of these idiots asked me who would make them. I said a true Volunteer. He started to laugh and then stopped and asked if I seriously thought that I could take them. Yes was my answer. Without looking at me, they all turned and apologized to the couple. They then left. I walked the couple back to their car. Much better ending to their evening. I was so juiced up on adrenaline from the game that I had no doubt of the outcome of a fight with them either. I seriously don’t like bulies or thugs.
