Recruiting Football Talk VIII

So you're saying Heupel would have gladly traded Nico away for Joey even if Nico didn't want to go? No way.
And Joey clearly knew where he stood once Nico arrived...

People are trying hard to overthink this.

Folks need to pepper their peaches for a strugglebus season (relative to Heupel's time...would be a great season 2005-2020). Hopefully the defense can repeat their success.

I'll just say it out loud, I think Nico was an overrated/hyped bust.

He's the 2nd QB Heupel has fallen in love with the measurables over the production. It happens, hopefully moving forward we see a better ability to develop these types or a willingness to evaluate them more critically.

Sorry, but what does this mean?

He should have played...Gaston or Merk over Nico?

He was still 7th out of 16 SEC QBs...as a 1st year starter. He also outlived and outplayed about every one of the other top-10 QB prospects from his same class lol. Manning still has an opportunity, but he hasn't done anything yet either.

I don't get what Heupel was supposed to do differently.

Was involved with a local union for over 30 years. Every contract negotiation started with “nothing in these negotiations can violate federal, state or local laws”
I can’t imagine any contract law attorney allowing his “ clients” to enter into any agreement/negotiations/contracts with a “you obey our rules and regulations and violate your state laws”

It means that neither Joe Milton or Nico reached the same level of production Hendon Hooker or even Dillon Gabriel (at UCF) did despite being higher rated HS prospects.

Edit: I answered the bold in my original post you quoted. Gotta do better to develop them, it's a lot of eggs in one basket if they don't pan out.

The whole point of the switch would be to get our money up. Might not put us in their ballpark but the more we have to spend the better, yes?
Who’s to say what the money would be for, for all we know it could just go to construction costs and salaries

I don’t disagree at all. It was easy to fall in love with him in high school but it didn’t translate

Yeah, and he may end up being a great QB...still young and still time

but he's not a Vol and we invested 2+ years and multi-millions of dollars to get middle of the road production in the SEC. So he was a bust for Tennessee at least.

I thought he was gonna be a superstar til we hit conference play. . .

143 of 225 at 63.6% for 1671 yards 9 TDs with 3 INTs in conference play, and 4 of those TDs came in 1 game against Vandy

What's really wild is that 3 of his best games were Vandy (x2) and Kentucky...in those 3 games 615 passing yards & 5 TDs

Larry Bird is a Ford man.
All though true, he had his reasons and 1 was because he didn't want to be flashy. So the joke's on you, Larry Bird drove a Ford because he didn't want to show off and you can't get any lower than a 85 ford Escort. 🤣Screenshot_20250520_141906_DuckDuckGo.jpgScreenshot_20250520_142507_DuckDuckGo.jpgScreenshot_20250520_141758_DuckDuckGo.jpg
The Greatest Basketball Player of all Time is Larry Bird

He also had these....Screenshot_20250520_141312_DuckDuckGo.jpg

For when he wanted to show off just a little bit...

Bird was so much cooler than MJ too.
