It’s just numbers in my opinion. One roster is 10-12 players and the other is 83-85. Tennessee has a finite pool of ultra rich donors and if they give 10-12 million for basketball it seems logical it would reduce the pool for football. We are a mid market university that is choosing to spread resources across many sports. The same reason Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, etc don’t have rosters like the Yankees and Dodgers. They might also say we can get a basketball final four for $10 million but it will cost $30 million plus for football. How do we square this circle?
“The football program can’t be competitive, monetarily, with OSU, Texas, etc.”
“The basketball program is increasing its roster expenditures from around $3 million to over $10 million.”
I don’t buy the notion that Heup asked for an extra 7 mil and got told “no,” but Rick asked and was told “cash or check?”It’s just numbers in my opinion.
