Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Washington, Michigan, and Blowhio State.
Indiana want lose to Washington or Michigan at home.

Ohio State , yes

Luckily every teams OOC schedule is cream puff city so they will have no other choice than to go by conference strength of schedules.

BTW 10--2 Vols get in the CFP, no question.

10-2 gets us in. What gets us in is that we beat bama. They can’t let them jump us, So we’ll be in. There are 5/6 weeks left of regular season.
Most of the media that I've seen since Saturday are pushing the line: "Is Bama a fraud with Deboer?" Just go listen to Finebaum, Bama's resident boot-licker. I fear that that Bama win will not carry the water for us that you suspect. Hopefully it would.

They beat UGA. And they have plenty more games to make that win mean something for us.

At the beginning of the season, when we thought our 2 losses may be against really good Bama and UGA teams, 10-2 in the playoffs seemed almost a given. The season hasn't played out that way.

There will probably be several SEC 10-2 teams. Our Arky loss looks pretty bad right now, and the Bama win is looking less and less good. The OU win looks laughable at best. Same with NCSU. We have not built a terribly strong enough resume to be comfortable with another loss, even if it's to UGA.

We need to win out, or at least we need Bama winning out and we hope. Anything less than winning out, it becomes too questionable in my mind.
But it just happened?

It will depend on the optics of the Georgia game. If we are competitive, I still think we get in at 10-2. The Arkansas loss is not ideal, but both of our losses would be on the road. I'm not sure that will be the case with other 10-2 SEC teams - aTm lost at home, LSU's loss against USC looks as bad as our loss to Arkansas, we beat Alabama head-to-head, and Ole Miss lost at home to UK. We probably need to "fashionably" take care of UK, Miss State, and Vandy, though.

Yes, I think we get left out at 10-2. NC State and OU pure sucking did us no favors. Bama would be our only “quality” win if we finish 10-2 with that 2nd loss being to the Dawgs.
NC State very well may finish 7-5 or better. Do you know what Clemson's wins are right now? They are awful, yet some media polls have Clemson higher than us or right behind us. No really does their research.

The SEC is tougher than any other conference. Wins against teams like OU, UF, and even Vandy this year matter.

Yes sir. That's why I said earlier that we need Bama to win out and look good, and even then we're hoping. Better to win out.

Parenthetically, I have been amazed to see those VNers here rejoicing to see NCSU, OU, Arky, etc looking terrible since we played them. Same with those hoping Bama loses out. If you want to see the Vols in the playoff, you're rooting against that by hoping to see them all look bad.

Lol. I just saw the post about our crowd noise from the Bama announcer. Talk about salty.

The size helps, but its the way the stadium is built to trap noise which makes it even louder.
The two press boxes on either side angled in, and once you get into the stadium the maze that it is doesn't allow sound to escape.

The real frauds are Notre Dame. They shouldn’t be in after that horrible loss to a MAC school. Yet everybody has them in. I’d love to see Amy or Navy beat them because we all know Florida St isn’t. Their schedule is laughable. They need to join a conference already. There will be a ton of teams at 10-2.
They on upset watch against navy this weekend.

I've given up on OU and NC st looking good, but I did have hope arky would make us look better.

You bolded the wrong part of my post.

What's so hard to understand here? We need to win out. I never said that we won't be in the playoff with a loss to UGA. Just that it becomes far too questionable and we don't have the SoS to make it as probable as we thought 10-2 would be at the start of the season.

NC State beat NIU...and those jokers lost to them at home.

I bolded it because the narrative is spinning towards Alabama being awful. Very little talk about us winning what was billed by the same media as a "must-win elimination game" last week.

But, the narrative is what we have to fight against.

My post said that we need Bama to look good b/c of that narrative. Not that they are terrible, and the win is meaningless.

Your last sentence encapsulates my point per Bama.

👍

Yeah, I wasn't disagreeing with your point. Moreso just pointing out how quickly the narrative shifted in the media. It's like our defense had nothing to do with making them look pedestrian.

I just wanted to share how freaking cool it was to be on vacation in PCB and see so much orange every day, even before the win on Saturday. Once I started noticing it I was looking for folks wearing other school colors and didn't see too much. Years past it was the other way around. Seen several dollars stapled on the wall that said Vols at the restaurant we ate at, and was only looking in the area we sat at.

I'm so dang happy for our fan base. With all the crap we have had to put up with for the last almost 20 years, we deserve the success. Proud of our school, players, and fan base. Folks ain't ready for us to have sustained success.

Again, I don't trust the decision makers. But our resume is as good as or better than everyone in the SEC not named Georgia and maybe Texas (although that Michigan win is not going to be elite at the end of the season). LSU and A&M are in the mix, but I think ours is just as good.
