Recruiting Football Talk VIII

@jave36 If a coach wanted an airline to delay a regularly scheduled flight for an hour in a city airport and a full plane of passengers sit for an hour on the runway in order that a player could catch that flight without leaving campus early, how big a conspiracy would that be?

A massive conspiracy involving dozens of not hundreds of people, and there's no way something like that gets covered up for over a year in today's day and age?
A one time calling in of a favor to an airport buddy is not the same as instructing hundreds of officials (many of whom take pride in being honorable and fair as part of their profession) to intentionally call games against one specific team over and over and over every week. It strains credulity that none of those officials would have spilled the beans to their wives or colleagues or simply felt guilty and fessed up publicly. That's too big a secret for that many people to keep.

An equivalent to your analogy would be a coach delaying a plane every single week at a different airport each time. THAT would be impossible to cover up for a long time.

6 penalties for 54 yards to 0 penalties for vols to start the Bama vols game 2 years ago
Last year Bama averaged almost 7 penalties for 55 yards per game before they played us. For the season they finished with almost 6 penalties and 47 yards per game.

In our game they were flagged 1 time for 5 yards. Throughout 2023, the UT game was their season low penalty game, by a significant margin.

It's astounding how clean they played against us, and only us.

Edit: This year Bama is averaging almost 8 penalties per game for 72 yards, for reference. Against AP ranked opponents this year they are average 10 penalties for 90 yards (but it is one game). They have yet to play a game against anyone with at least 4 penalties. So let's see how our game is called.

Fanduel has it as 72% of Money on Bama, but 66% of bets. So big money is Bama. That would be a pretty consistent historical trend under Saban and old habits die hard.

Is that all just fan duel bets though? Because if so that’s likely just casuals betting

@jave36 If a coach wanted a commercial airline to intentionally but secretly delay a regularly scheduled commercial flight (not a charter) for an hour in a city airport and a full plane of passengers made to sit for an hour on the runway (without being told the true reason) (and without consideration of their plans or connecting flights) in order that one of the coach's players could catch that flight without having to leave campus earlier than the coach wanted (although he had transportation), how big a conspiracy would that be?

A massive conspiracy involving dozens of not hundreds of people, and there's no way something like that gets covered up for over a year in today's day and age?
By the way I do agree that the data suggests this is worth investigating. Ten games with only 2 live ball penalties is a large enough discrepancy that it warrants more investigation. But I don't think it's a conspiracy against UT.

An "airport buddy." What are all the airports employees told? Who lies to the pilot and the crew? Who lies to the passengers? Who tells the mechanics there is a false mechanical issue, which they can ignore? Who falsifies the reports?

Let's be 💯 no one knows what the hell to make of us or Bama. For basically similar reasons - inconsistency. Bama is inconsistent in both offense and defense, we are inconsistent in offense. Bama has proven they can be explosive against a good defense (UGA) and we have not.

I'll take the home team and the fans. Tell anyone you know going to be as lit as they have ever been because I truly think they will be the difference.
I think we are 2-3 deep passes missed against Florida and an injured lt against arky away from being possibly +1 to -2spread against Bama

If the few deep throws were hit us and the national talking heads would have a different opinion about us

Hell we’re 5-1 and really close to being a freaking machine this year
This team improved offensively in the second half last week
Hopefully they can build on it

All you need is one mechanic to say" hold this plane I need to check something."

Scoresandodds and VegasInsider both show 88% of the money going to Alabama.

Just as notable - 98% of the money is going to Alabama moneyline but that is only -148. Should be higher.

🤔
If that much money is going one way and the line hasn't moved, Vegas likes it.
But the home team typically gets 3 points, so one would think they actually like Bama at 5.5..... It's extremely hard to say.
I'm betting the Vols because I always do, but I think a lot of people stay away.
