Recruiting Football Talk VIII

I'm guessing the leak was intentional to control the narrative once we decided to move on from Nico. The leak didn't cause us to lose him. And it worked amazingly well. Literally everyone in the media is in our side.
Nah there is no reason for TN to want that out in public cause it creates tampering opportunities and gives schools time to negotiate pay raises with their quarterbacks.

With the WR talent we have any QB with a brain would want to come make 2m for one year to earn a draft spot.

Jake & George were already expecting to play behind Nico anyway. You just tell both “you’re now in an open competition”

It was obvious the playbook was dumbed down for Nico. Others have mentioned the mental aspect and now you have. In you opinion, was it willful not studying film/learning the playbook or did he simply not have what was needed between the ears?
I don’t think people realize, how little organized football Nico had played. It took him longer to absorb. I think he’s a smart kid, but will take awhile for him to get that football I Q

That makes no sense. Leak it. Call the reporter a B1tch over it and deny it in public. Be proven a liar the next day.

That'd be pure idiocy.
Because once he realized that the fanbase was NOT on his side he had to cover his ass, maybe? Its quite shocking at how bad people are at basic PR. Especially for a Narcissist like big Nick.

I think team Nico leaked it thinking the fans would lose their minds to the idea of Nico leaving. Forcing the collective to accept their demands. Look at what happened in Dallas when Luka was traded. The family probably thought they would have the same support. "If Nico leaves. Your fanbase will turn on you!" Obviously, that didn't happen!

Instead the entire community of Tennessee. From the Coaches, administration, teammates, boosters, alumni, fans. Even the Tennessee haters all were in agreement to show him the door.

That's just my guess on how it went down.

I think it’s too early to tell if this will be a step back or a step forward. Let’s face it the bar Nico set last year wasn’t real high. He could have made a major leap from last season but it’s hard to ignore the fact the staff cut bait pretty quick. Hard to believe he was setting the world on fire knowing that. I think this has a decent chance to be a net positive but it’s hard to know until you see the new quarterback play with bullets flying. Nico was mid pack in the SEC last year in basically every statistical category and that’s just facts. Time will tell but I think the best thing for the team and culture was to tell him to pack his bags.
I think that him spending the time in California instead of with his WRs, TEs, RBs working on timing is very telling.

Past QBs showed significant improvement by doing just this.

To me it explains a lot about how he wasn’t in sync with those players last season after spending the Summer in California.

Been wondering this myself. We anticipated the second coming of Hendon Hooker and got a game manager who couldn't seem to ever hit his receivers instead.

Not to get political, but we’ve been seeing this play out in that arena for roughly a decade now from both sides’ political leaders. I’m pretty immune to the ignorance of people.

What kind of message does that send to Merklinger and G-Mac? All Quarterbacks have some ego could be a tough pill to swallow if a Portal QB gets the starting nod over two QB's recruited by CJH to come here.

Quarterback and WR are the two biggest egos on Football field.

BTW: both GM and Merk may be fine with a Portal QB starting ...who knows.
My thoughts are this is why you shoot for a 1 and done guy. Don't want to run off the future of GMac and Faizon.

Gmac won't care about a 1 yr guy as a freshman. He needs to learn and install first anyway.
