Recruiting Discussion

If any AD dictates who is being recruited in any sport then they are crossing the line. The only time they should remotely get involved is when a recruit has legal issues.

Fulmer has nothing to do with that.

How can you know this? I'm sure PF doesn't go over CRB's recruiting board, it is however perfectly reasonable that PF could have reviewed CRB's recruiting budget/receipts and questioned why they weren't higher. If the AD is pro-recruiting and pushes that agenda to all sports coaches then CRB might have listened and picked up his pace. I don't have a clue if that happened, but it's certainly a possibility.

3. We have an AD who values recruiting and sees UT for what it should be. He’s gonna encourage the staff to bring the best to UT.

I can read perfectly fine.

The only thing Fulmer is going to do is make sure Barnes has the $ to recruit who Barnes feels he wants. Any AD that was a coach knows they don't want an AD telling them who to offer. That's dumb

You are using Your imagination to come up with something that I did not say.

Fulmer didn't hire Barnes. He has no investment in him. Barnes has coached long enough to know that. He needs to impress his new boss...on the court and off. Barnes also realizes that as a former coach, Fulmer can/will sympathize with him on some bad breaks on the recruiting trail (Simons), but he also knows he can't pull the wool over Phil's eyes in terms of recruiting, either. Phil was one of the best in his day. He knows the struggles and he knows when someone just isn't working hard enough.

We recruited those two guys. That is true. We are much more active this spring and summer. Not sure why you continue to deny that. Only you are taking that stance. Only you.

We had 1 spot for 2018, we have 4 for 2019...maybe that plays a part? Nah, gotta be the Fulmer effect, only explanation.

I would agree with this if I truly believe Barnes and staff weren’t just as active this year as they were the previous seasons. Obviously 2018 was a bit different given the number of scholarships, but we were still present at every major AAU event just like we have been this season.

So from looking back over the post it appears Ziti has said Fulmer expects Barnes to bring in the best players and also has forced Barnes to work and stop being lazy on the trail.

Damn Fulmer might just save this program

Right. It’s not any different than having a boss in any other job. If you have a boss who values punctuality you show up on time. If you have a boss who is a neat freak you don’t let your desk look like a train wreck. You have a boss who prioritizes recruiting you get your tail to some gyms and start showing up at homes and schools too. Bet we don’t get a “he’s earned the right” comment from an assistant anytime soon.

Barnes knows that going out and getting Zack Kent as your only fall signee isn’t good enough. Missing completely in 2018 until May isn’t the path we need to take yearly. He knows that.
