He said that for the 2016 class. Stokes is in class of 2017.

He didn't even mention Stokes in a 20 minute segment.

Not saying we aren't getting Stokes in the end. I saw that he's got mostly UT cb's to this point but I don't think Meyer's cb means that he knows anything in particular or that we should expect anything to happen there.

For the 2016 class Vols have 4 signees and are hoping to lock down DeLarousa next week when he visits. They may possibly look to add a foreign player if an extra schollie becomes available. For 2017 right now there would only be 1 scholarship available unless someone leaves and that would be Hubbs' slot when he graduates.

Does that not strike a red flag with you? Kasongo was averaging about the same minutes and he was way overhyped about here. And it's obvious now why he played so little in JUCO.

The only thing is says to me is conditioning, which we know. Their numbers don't even compare outside of minutes, what DLR is doing in ~18mpg is pretty impressive IMO, putting up 2-3x the numbers Kasongo did in the same minutes.

Actually, this box shows Delarosa playing 27 minutes in that 18 point game. Somewhat encouraging.

NJCAA

That would be a very good sign, I was trying to find his most recent box scores to see his minutes played. Early in the year he was 10-15mpg mostly, if he's now playing 20-25+mpg that's a great sign for his conditioning.

I don't see this guy being much of an impact unless he gets serious about getting in shape. Maybe someone e has talked to him from the staff and feels like they can motivate him into doing that. If he could get to 275 range would be great. But I'm not that excited about this guy. Trust the coaches I guess.

There is a video in here of him dunking a couple of months ago where he already appeared to be in better shape.

Against a division 2 guy. Still not impressed. Don't get me wrong. I'm not an evaluator of talent. Hope if he signs he plays his ass off. I'm not trying to dog him. But with our recent luck with bigs. Not holding my breath. I'm more curious about the potential foreign guy.

Curious as to why you think we need to redshirt one? We have a depth problem already I dont think redshirting one of those is a good idea. Just my opinion though.

That's a good question. Barnes' situation is a lot like Butch's first couple of seasons. We probably can't afford to redshirt at this point.

As I said, to balance the classes. That's almost half of the scholarships in one class. Doesn't have to happen their freshman year. Aren't Bone, Parker, and Turner all point guards?

Redshirting one would be in an effort to separate the class. 6-man classes in basketball can hurt you down the road. Most likely, they don't all finish at the same time for one reason or another, but if they did, then you are replacing half your roster at one time.

Having said that, redshirts in basketball are far more rare than in football except for the reasoning of injury. With only 13 spots, most teams can't afford to voluntarily sit a guy for a year.

Plus Turner makes 6 freshman. Somebody almost needs to redshirt in order to start balancing classes.
If all 6 of those guys stayed till their senior year, I'd be shocked. I'd say there's a good chance at least 1 guy will transfer in the next few years. (The transfer rates these days are ridiculous!)

Barnes should have substituted a couple of graduate transfers, JUCOs, or underclass transfers... but I guess he really likes those 5. Not his fault though... Cuonzo blew up the recruiting cycle on his way out the door.

Tyndall is more to blame for using up almost ALL the evaluation days and visit days for recruits. And Tyndall didn't even recruit the guys Cuonzo was trying to bring in. The topic has been discussed ad neuseum but you get my point :p

Cuonzo was paid millions of dollars and left a dumpster fire. Tyndall did his best to fill the holes. He did add a mix of transfers and freshmen... too bad that at least three of his freshmen transferred. It started with Cuonzo though. He was paid $5,000,000 or so and TN elevated him to the P-5 conferences (before he even made an NCAAT) but TN was no better off on the day he ran away than on the first day he set foot on campus. It ultimately was a mistake to ever hire him. Tyndall too... but he wasn't around long enough to destroy TN BB. Dave Hart is the common link here.

I dunno. Usually Sweet 16's don't come by very often at UT. Wouldn't call that destroying a program. CCM had a pretty solid class coming in. CDT didn't retain any of them. He would have had a better chance with Austin, Cofer and Turman on the roster last year IMO.

I said CDT didn't destroy TN BB in his time here.

Cuonzo barely made one NCAAT in three years and the program was a dumpster fire when he left. CDT's signees were a better group than the commits that ran off when CCM also ran away.
