Recruiting Discussion

I think that may have been based on Tennessee's reluctance to set up an OV, and it looking like they were content to hold out for Simons.

This may mean more regarding bad news on Simons. Harris visiting now tells me Tennessee is likely moving on from Simons and putting the move on Harris, among others. Hopefully, they can make up the ground they lost to Baylor and MSU by waiting. Tennessee should be more appealling on the surface.

I don't know the rosters of the other 2 but our roster isn't one that would appeal to most kids wanting to play Early imo. A pg would see it as 2 years waiting on being a starter and that isn't good in recruiting

Baylor is bringing in Yale graduate transfer Makai Mason, he’s a 30mpg guy and will have 2 years of eligibility.

Mississippi State has sophomores Lamar Peters and Tyson Carter at PG, so not much there either.

That's an easy sell. "Tyler we want you to be the #2 PG. We also wanna play JB at the 2 guard some. You could get those minutes at the point and we will play you and JB at the same time."

Nah. Most kids want to feel like they have a chance to compete for a starting job

Well, there are 4 of them who have played on the same high school team, so they are already familiar with each other, and a 5th is a cousin to one of the 4. I don't think Lomax and Harris would ever play together because they are both undersized PG's. Pastner had trouble dealing with some of them, but that is one area in which Penny has more experience. He has done it at the local level.

They needed hype since attendance dropped to its worst since 1970. Then, he will be playing with 4 and 5 stars in the AAC. They will at least match what Tubby did with better players, so there is nothing to lose.

Anfernee Simons
Alex Lomax
James Wiseman
Chandler Lawson
DJ Jeffries (he's the cousin)

Would run through the AAC.

Penny has a ton of "people" positioned in grass routes basketball. He's gonna get a lot of players.

Makai mason is the same guy who killed Baylor in the NCAA tournament a few years ago lol

That is interesting...on the surface I wonder if Penny knows he won’t come and it makes him look good for offering, would be surprising to see Memphis take both Harris & Lomax.

The biggest issue penny is going to have is turning kids and more importantly his contacts kids down. He is going to find that isn't easy

I don’t even know why we try to recruit the Memphis area.

Kids don’t seem to have interest in us anymore.

We really couldn't take advantage the last two years because the talent in the city hasn't been good. Jaylen Fisher was the only one, and people had different views on him.

It is now back to being difficult pulling big talent.

Welp move on from Simons.

Guard Anfernee Simons of IMG Academy is entering the NBA Draft, his agents Drew Rosenhaus and Bobby Petriella tell ESPN. Simons is No. 19 in ESPN's most recent mock draft.

No surprise.

I’ve never seen a kid look more disinterested than he did on his visit. He was dead set on going pro IMO. Coming here on that visit was a waste of time in his mind. I applaud the staff for getting involved and going after a difference maker though. Now let’s go find us a nice player for this last spot.

IDK the NCAA rules, but if he declares for the draft, does that really eliminate him from changing his decision closer to draft day?
