Pearl didn't get any top recruits to come here. He got several 3* & some 4* players to play in Knoxville. Hubbs our only 5* talent right now was recruited by Martin wasn't he & not Pearl?

Name me any player while Pearl was here that was a 5* player coming out of high school? We always get a few 4* recruits but mostly the 3* level recruits. I think the difference is the Pearl coaching.

I'm sure that before I can click submit, several have already typed "Tobias Harris".

Also, Pearl doesn't seem to be having any trouble recruiting next years class at Auburn.

I believe Harris was a 5* but Hopson was a 4*. It depends on which recruiting service you want to use. I also think Tyler Smith was a 4* recruit but we got him via transfer from Iowa.

Pearl didn't get talent the likes of Kentucky & Kansas so his coaching was the cause for us going to the places we did. There's no doubt about it!

Crews and Rsmith were highly rated as well. Borderline 4/5 stars top 25 type recruits irrc


Anyway I am not expecting Barnes get top 50 guys but dang he better start getting the 50-100 ranked talents. Today's news of not even being in the top 4 of a kid we reportedly have focused heavily on is a punch in the gut

Which service? Scout or Rivals or even 247 Sports? Hopson's 5* was a waste & so was a guy named Vincent Yarbrough. :eek:hmy:

Hubbs is a 5* & I just hope he can stand up to that status this coming season.

Speaking of star ranking talent. Wonder what Bernard King came into Knoxvile ranked as? Did they even have those type rankings back then? Wouldn't he had to have been a 5* player?

The only thing that I remember about Hopson is that he originally was suppose to sign with Miss. St. and then delayed to the spring and ended up signing with UT. That is when I saw somewhere that he was rated 5*.

Hopson was a 5* and played in the McDonalds All American game....CBP did an excellent job recruiting but he also was a great motivator/floor coach(see Auburn's class)

Yeah, he turned to UT at the last minute. I'm assuming it was because of Pearl. He had a decent UT career but wasn't a 5* talent at any point in his 4 seasons at UT.

That's why he's never made it pro even though he's sniffed the NBA a couple of times wit the Cavs & Rockets.

Duke Crews
Scotty Hopson
Tobias Harris
And he had Jarnell Stokes locked up as well.

That is four 5* players, with a fifth on the way when he was fired.

Lord thank you for the fire in these fans. But they choking on the smoke. Can you send a breeze to clear up the air. Amen. The season is over for a couple months and every thread is the same group of guys arguing Barnes is old and past his prime and can't recruit. When a building is burning noone runs into it. After the last few years of shambles you all expect recruits to just say man I'm on board with that mess. Don't you all realize the burn down building has to be cleared and rebuilt before anyone knows what kind of business will take its place. Let the man do his job and quit throwing gas on a fire that needs to be put out first.

I don't know rather to chuckle or cry. Chuckle because it's nothing new, cry because he was our best chance at getting a commit trio. (That's what I call multiple commits in a short span lol)

I'm not young at all buddy. I was born in 1971. What does that have to do with me saying Pearl didn't exactly get the top recruits? He only got a few. Yes, he could coach. I hate that we don't still have him but it was his fault.

He turned what talent he was able to get get into really god basketball teams. That's the definition of a good head coach.

I just don't get that! It's like most people aren't happy on here unless they're making others mad or wanting to start an argument. Thanks!
