Rap concert help..

I've never been a Lil' Wayne fan myself, but there are a lot of people who think he's the best the grace the face of the Earth...

Since you consider yourself "in the know" who does have flow, cadence, lyrics, and style? I'm curious as to if we have the same taste in rap.

Black Thought (The Roots), Talib Kweli, Common, Jay-Z's flow before the Black album was on top, but now he's slipped a bit, Tash (Tha Alkaholiks), and Mos Def.

He's grown on me over the past 3 years, but I can't put him in my all time top 10. But his flow and some of his lyrics are tight. His ability to freestyle is questionable.

Yea I'm not as concerned with freestyle ability. I just like good rhythm in songs and I'm all about lyrics. Sometimes I think that I'm the only person that actually listens to the lyrics and not just the beat and hook.

well the concert was worth every dollar i spent on it...other than the joke rappers at the first..and having to wait an hour and a half until lil wayne came out, it was one of the best experiences i've ever had.

What made it so great? Just the atmosphere or the actual concert?

well during the first few acts, the atmosphere was dead because they were just awful. but when Weezy came out..man, i have never heard/seen anything like it. also, the concert was badass. you were right with the whole they just play a little of the song, but i dont even care.

Yea I figured most all of them did that. I saw Lil' Jon's retarded self last weekend and he actually played pretty much all whole songs...including Lynyrd Skynyrd and Journey...

That's awesome though, glad you enjoyed it.

Wow I just looked the show up and it was $55 plus I'm sure lots of fees. To be completely honest with you, expect to be disappointed. No rap concert is worth that much.
If that's your opinion, I'm going to guess you never saw Public Enemy at their height, the original lineup of NWA, DMX before he lost his mind and decided to be in a movie with Steven Seagal, any of the Dr. Dre/Snoop Dogg shows during the Chronic/Doggfther era or Ice Cube or Ice-T.

No I didn't. I've only seen the fools that run the show today. The concerts are always a fun time but not worth forking over big money. I would love to have seen some of the OG's back in the day.

I figured that was the case. Didn't check your profile to see how old you are, but you come across as a smart guy and I can't imagine anyone seeing those artists in their prime and feeling ripped off. I actually cosidered going to the Lil' Wayne show tonight, but the new girlfriend isn't a rap fan. I'd bet Common, Ludacris, and TI could all deliver a $55 worthy show in a 2,000 seat or smaller venue. Rap does lose a whole bunch in translation when you're in a 25,000 seat mega arena.

Trick Daddy also puts on a tremendous show, especially when he's back home in South Florida.

I dont know why they couldn't have a better lineup..Lil Wayne is one of the hottest right now. First it was some R&B dude, then some douche bags, one was white, Mr. Mac, and then some other guys that i think just got pissed and walked off the stage. One of them was like F ya'll and threw his mic down.

Unless you're the headliner making a fat stack of cash, why would a hip hop or R&B artist of any stature want to play Knoxville?

hat is right. Back in the day (late 80's-early 90's), there were far better rap shows out there. The greatest rap show I ever saw was back in the summer of 1988 when I saw Rakim, P.E., and Cool J on tour. You cannot recreate the reaction the crowd had when P.E. came on stage, or when Rakim stepped out of a pyramid and just started spitting fire and flowing...

That show was definetly worth $50.

I was going to go with some friends, but I've had the flu the past week and I've struggled to make it from room to room much less have a good time at a concert

You put together a tour with Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, and A Tribe Called Quest, and I'm all over that.

Best advice I can give is not to go.

hmm...strange that you would say that...seeing as how when you posted this, it couldn't have been more than a week since Avon and I heard you blastin "Lollipop" through your system...:eek:lol:

I'm guessing the majority of people there were drunk/high preppy white teenagers who think they are gangsta. That's what the crowd at the Chattanooga show was anyway. From what I've heard, most people that are older, people that have listened to rap for years, and a lot of black people tend to consider Wayne to be a joke. I kind of fall into that category, too. I like a few Wayne songs, and a few others I enjoy the beats but could care less about the lyrics, and the rest has been garbage. The more rap I listen to, the more I appreciate and like the older stuff that I listened to as a kid. To me, rappers like Wayne are a dime a dozen. A few enjoyable songs, but nothing that is profound, groundbreaking, or otherwise memorable in any way.
