Been there a few times myself ... to hot, dry and foreign .... Crockett and the Tennesseans may have made a mistake LOL
And, flat in northern parts. I always thought that when the earth was created, they worked from the East and West and dumped all the crap leftover in Texas. Austin and San Antonio are a different world, though.
Our home office is in McKinney soooo
I kinda liked San Antonio ,,, only drove through Austin once
I need to get there while I'm back. My brother has been telling me about that place for 10 years. Some of the best fried catfish I've ever eaten was at Catfish King when I lived in Texas. It was down from work and was great. Texas has two good things going for it, Catfish King and great chicken fried steak. After that, I don't care if they blow Texas off the map.
I just don't care about their brisket. Briskets are a personal preference. I'll take mine.
I'll never remember the name, but ate at a hole in the wall place riding the hill country on my way to the ROT rally in Austin, and it was by far the best Brisket, I've ever had
Cooked it outside on open pits and served it on white butcher paper by the lb, inside
Therein, lies the key. Hole in the wall place. I'll eat at every one I find. Usually, the best food around. I found some good places to eat while in Tejas, but most of the good places where hole in the way types or roadside stands.
Especially true for breakfast, I've run across a few places that are 30-40 minutes away that are worth the ride if I don't want to make it myself, and are well worth it
