'25 QB transfer prospects (Joey Aguilar)

Aguilar had a down year in 2024 with a deadbeat staff and playing from behind thanks to a defense that couldn't stop anything.

He still put up solid numbers while being one of the best in the country at not taking sacks. One of the best in the country at positive play rate and first down rate.

He threw a bunch of picks, but that'll happen when A) you don't have coaching / playcalling and B) you have to throw your way into every game.

Despite all of that, the underlying / predictive numbers suggest that his production, even adjusting for competition was about 12 points better than Nico over the course of last season. His 2023 numbers would've been worth about 30 points more than Nico last season.

My model doesn't usually like G5 quarterbacks, but Aguilar is right there near the top of them, ranking a few spots higher than Rourke pre-Indiana, Pavia pre-Vanderbilt,

Still gotta see if it translates, but there's more here than the typical stats show imo.

How does he compare to the rest of the SEC QBs in your model?

Well at least you can't say it'll be boring next fall. If Aguilar balls out, it's going be the biggest F U to Nico, his dad, and UCLA.
I honestly expected a depth chart QB just to have a 3rd. And watching Slinger develop as the season went along. Nico wasn’t great and we were still a playoff team last year. So I expected that kinda year this year….and honestly that’s how I felt before Nico bailed. There was no reason to believe Nico would suddenly be able to be accurate.
Now….. it will at least be interesting to watch what happens to each.

? For you guys. Do you think guys like Mike Mathews and Chris B didn’t test the portal this spring because they’re confident in Merk/coach to bring a solid guy in or new purely new deal related

As soon as boosters are disgruntled, you’re a dead man walking.

I hope Heupel has a successful season, but this feels like a turning point for him here.
Those boosters are Fing morons then. Let the stupid bastards run Heupel off where we can wander in the wilderness for a few more decades.

It’s all good. It’s apparent that coach CJH felt the relationship with Nico was in good place in winter portal, I also think they had their hands full with current players negotiating. I know people stepped up for this qb search, but couldn’t convince anyone to jump.

Extremely difficult to get a good Starting Power 4 QB to jump AFTER SPRING PRACTICE. Totally new offense with no experience in it plus your coaches, teammates, and fan base now HATE YOU. You are so behind the 8 ball as they say. Boosters stepped up for some QB’s TN was back channeling as they should. Brady Hoke agrees with a few words of this comment.

Most of you don’t know ‘ride it all out and find out where it takes us’. I don’t light a pitchfork and storm the castle until I need to. There’s not a dang (yes, I used dang), it’s still close to no cuss Sunday and the day of our Lord’s resurrection). We ride with our coaches decision or we don’t. Plain and simple. We’re not in their shoes with this crap.

New deal and offensive changes. If Merk were to leave, I would worry about Mike a lot. They are close.

Idk why all the moaning and groaning about Heup whiffing by a certain few. It was a no win situation. It would have cost 4-5 mil to lure a good QB here due to the situation. Joey isn’t ideal but it’s all we could have really done. It’s clear talks with Alt went nowhere. All we can do is get some other dudes with the $ now. Blaming Heup for “whiffing” when he was put in this spot is crazy.

Let it play out before we throw in the towel on the season. Not anybody saw Hendon coming, but look how he ended up doing for us. The season still has a lot of upside.
