'25 QB transfer prospects (Joey Aguilar)

What WR would transfer to a school with unknown qb situation?

Ummm.. a bunch?

Isaiah Horton went to Bama. They have just as much questions at QB as we do currently. Auburn pulled in 2 WRs rated in the top 5 of transfer rankings and has a new QB in Jackson Arnold that was one of the worst QBs in the country in 2024. Several other similar situations too. And that's just this year.

We could pay a premium because we’re desperate. It may cost us as much or more than Nico to secure a serviceable QB that has a ceiling of 9-3. We’re in a tough spot but if we don’t make any moves, play our inexperienced QBs, and win about 7 games fans will be pissed.
That would be short sighted. I don't think you spend a crazy sum just because you can. Don't discount what spending signals to your players along with those looking to score in the portal.

There’s not much choice. The season in front of you matters the most even if it feels short sighted. Once the games start, and your young QBs struggle, fans will get pissed and question why we didn’t get a veteran QB. If you want to have a chance to win games you have to pay up.

I'm jealous of Auburn and Alabamas QB situation as of right now. Alabamas situation is pretty identical to what we were hoping to have next year. A upper class QB with multiple years in the system, a freshman who's a huge recruit, and a pretty good recruit who's still battling but probably still needs some time.

So 3 unproven guys

I think fans know this year is going to be a step back. What Nico did really stuck it to Heupel and this program. I think he gets a pass next season. Just beat the teams you're supposed to and make a bowl game. Having said that, I think Heupel has some hard decisions to make if he's going to remain as the head coach here, and I think it starts with his staff. If he stands pat with the staff, I think it will cost him his job sooner rather than later. They have some weak on the field coaches, and I'm seriously concerned about our evals at several positions. Next year is just one season, and I've seen a lot of "those" type seasons in 7 decades. No need to make stupid, costly decisions based on a single event/year.

Yes or a 5* entering his 4th year on campus, a top 10 qb recruit entering his 3rd year in his coaches system, and a true freshman with the same recruiting ranking as Nico. Clearly a much better situation than us.

How is it a better situation if they have 3 unproven guys and we have 2 unproven guys.

Also, it’s hard to take it serious when you’re trying to defend Ty Simpson. Kid is trash. There’s a reason why he hasn’t touched the field.

Milroe was an absolute garbage can…what does that make Simpson?

I will give you Keelon Russell, he will be good.

“Just make a bowl game” in year 5 is embarrassing

Agree about the staff though. Theres several that should have been gone and they are all on the offensive side

If I'm a coach selling a WR on where to transfer one room shows experience, stability, and potential. One room shows a freshman, a redshirt freshman, and TBD.

Exactly. Milroe didn’t exactly light the world on fire last season, and everyone wanted to blame DeBoer’s system. What does that say about Simpson?

Okay so they have
- Experience-ish
- unproven
- unproven

We have
- unproven
- unproven

Well if the only thing they have over us is Ty Simpson, then I’ll pray for them.

I would feel better about Merk if this was year 3 in the system. Austin Mack is in year 3 and was viewed as a better prospect. I understand what you are saying, but I think you are oversimplifying the situation because we all hate Bama.

On the topic of Bama: I am a little sad about our situation because I think they are beatable this year. We need a good QB and confidence to win in T Town. I want to light a cigar from the ashes of Saban Field at Bryant Denny Stadium.

The changes to NIL, the transfer portal, and Saban leaving have made them mortal. I think DeBoer is a good coach, but he is no Saban in the sense that he can lock down top end talent for years.

It just comes down to us getting the right guy at QB, because I actually like the rest of our roster. A few holes can be filled and depth added, but we are looking pretty good across the board.

If we get the right guy in place at QB I really believe that 10-2 is not some sort of pipe dream. I said the same thing a few weeks when we all thought Nico was going to be here. I thought he was going to make a big jump this season . The schedule allows us to potentially go 10-2 or even 11-1 IF we get the right guy. I just don’t see anyone who is incredibly talented on our schedule that doesn’t have major flaws.

It's been since 2003 since we've won at Bama or Florida. It's time.
