From what I gather, I don't believe Altmyer or Becht have very large NIL deals at the moment. Probably 1 million or less. So there should definitely be some intrigue from them or QBs like therm.

Only about 10 Qbs get drafted every year, most of them after the 1st round. And UDFA's that make the practice squad only get 12.5k for every regular season week they are on the roster. For QBs like Altmyer and Becht who aren't super high on the NFL radar at the moment, the ability to double or triple your salary, even for 1 year is going to be very appealing. I mean that is potentially life changing money for these guys who may not have much of a NFL future.

Altmyer and Rocco would be great gets. They aren’t flashy but that’s what this offense has been missing the last two years is consistency and that’s what they bring is consistency. If the defense can be what it was last year there is no reason why Tennessee can’t put up a better more well rounded fight for the SEC. Have to get better receiver play undoubtedly and get certain OL spots moving the right direction.

Call it tampering or whatever you want. The truth is that people are working behind the scenes 365 days a years. Agents working to get more money, players texting other players or coaches who recruited them, coaches texting players, etc. There is currently no penalty for recruiting someone on another team.

Admittedly, I haven't watched him play since he left Ole Miss. Just looking at his stats, it looks like he had a good game against Nebraska but the rest of his performances against ranked opponents looks pretty rough on paper.

The players reps aren’t tied down to any rules. There aren’t really any anyway these days so they reach out to school collectives, school collectives and people within that school with whatever they think about the player and a deal either gets done or not. Happens everywhere “do not contact” tag…

These kids have agents/family members etc talking to teams all the time

Agents/reps reach out to someone strongly or loosely affiliated with the program and vice/versa. This happens all throughout the year.

No direct contact with player.

The depth would be main concern, certain spots they’ve been dominated. We don’t know how they’ll look either way this year. Hopefully improved.

I feel like with the level of athletes/recruits/experience we have on the OL, they should be very good. There aren't many teams matching the amount of 4 and 5 star OL we have. If they aren't it's an indictment on Ellarbee.

If we get the right guy in place at QB I really believe that 10-2 is not some sort of pipe dream. I said the same thing a few weeks when we all thought Nico was going to be here. I thought he was going to make a big jump this season . The schedule allows us to potentially go 10-2 or even 11-1 IF we get the right guy. I just don’t see anyone who is incredibly talented on our schedule that doesn’t have major flaws.

Are you assuming the right guy is out of the portal? If so I find that highly unlikely.

Why? Genuinely curious. Merk has thrown something like 9 passes and you’re good with him over two proven guys? I just don’t get it. Fifth year of Heupels tenure and you roll into a pivotal season with Merk, that’s a massive risk and a huge mistake IMHO
