PS4 VS Xbox720

Bad move by xbox, if so. We will have to wait and see.

Not necessarily. At first glance, it seems like gamers will get the short end of the stick. However, I'm sure the devs are loving this because it will put an end to GameStop stealing their profits by selling used copies of their games for $5 less than retail and pocketing all the money on a game they had nothing to do with creating. They simply ripped some kid off by giving him $20 for a game and then sold it for $55. This is the reason I've refused to buy used games for several years now. I'd rather pay the extra $5 and at least have the money end up in the hands of the people who made the game. If this helps drive more profits for devs, then there's a chance it could bring the cost of games down somewhat, or at least keep them where they are now. With each passing generation, we've basically seen a $10 increase on the cost of new games. I wonder if we can expect that again. Also, this is a strong selling point if they are trying to compete for hardware specific deals with certain studios. I'll still be getting the new Xbox, and honestly am kind of glad they may be going in this direction. The deal with GameStop has bugged me for years.

I'm not so much down with the idea of requiring a console to be connected to the internet in order for it to work though.

I never buy used games for all those reasons bleedorange and I also like being the only owner, but i do like sharing games with friends which means playing on several consoles.

but anything to screw gamestop i'm for...

GameStop created a fantastic business model that has made them a lot of money over the years and I applaud them for capitalizing on the system. However, it has also taken a lot of money out of the pockets of the studios who actually make the games, and I applaud Microsoft for taking measures to protect those people too. Some developers, such as EA Sports with their Online Pass Code, had already started taking some measures to penalize consumers who bought the game secondhand, and I imagine that is going to become more and more prevalent, so even if Sony chooses not to flat out block used games, I think we'll see more and more measures to curb gamers from buying secondhand.

I get the used game thing, but what about people that have two xboxs. I have a new one on the big screen and the old one is still kicking around in the bedroom. Basically I'll have to pick a console to play on? That's somewhat annoying.

I could see them doing something like ea for every game. if you buy a used game you have to buy a license before it will even play online or offline.

The PC gaming community will go back to the golden age if they pull this crap

I could see EA doing that, because they are run by swine.

I could not see any console manufacturer implementing something like that.

I can get that, but for a minute I had a tower with a line out to my plasma and played with a 360 controller. Worked great.

MS might add a feature where you can transfer the licenses between your own (or friends) consoles, much like they let you do with DLC.

Sounds far fetched to me.

I dont know if I could believe that MS would go that route when it is known Sony isnt. Wont really know until MS actually comes out with their announcement. But, if it does remain this way, there will not be a console battle, PS4 will absolutely crush them in sales IMO.

So devs that make a game should be able to make money on a product after initial sale? Thats garbage IMO, does anyone cry or complain about stores selling used movies? The movie makers dont make any more money on that title if its sold to a third party do they? When I sell my car to someone, should I have to pay Nissan because they originally made the car? Absolutely not. Gamestop is a ripoff when it comes to used games and trade-ins, but they arent stealing anything at all from the devs.

That's my take as well.

Do you really think that a significant number of people will be so put off by not being able to save $5 on games by buying them secondhand that they will choose PS4 over Xbox?

I wish I could get into gaming on a pc, but for some reason it just isn't the same as a console.

Most, if not all, my gaming these days is done on a console. That said, the freedom you get with gaming on a PC is simply apples to oranges when compared to what you get on a console. Games are way more limited on the latter. The only reason I honestly don't play on PC more often is because my current computer isn't ideally set up for it.

Where are you getting this 5 bucks figure? I have bought plenty if used games at a fraction of retail. And yes, it will be significant if there isn't an ability to play used games on the new Xbox while you will be able to on the ps4.

Basically any game that retails for the full $60, GameStop sells used for $55. I'll applaud any effort by console makers to encourage (force) consumers to pay the extra $5 and allow the devs to get a cut of the sale for their efforts as opposed to letting GameStop pocket $30+ of pure profit for doing nothing other than fronting a few dollars of store credit. Like I said, good for GameStop for taking advantage of the market and making a ton of money in the process, but also good for MS for at least making an effort to make sure the money for game sales ends up in the correct hands.
