PS4 VS Xbox720

yep, and it was losing money for Sony even at that price

Has Microsoft ever made money off the XBox?

From the articles I've read they're still losing money.

Edit*** meant they're still in the negative since it's inception.

Pretty sure they are making good off the Xbox division and have been for a few years. In 2011, the XBOX division was close to beating out the Windows side for revenue.

It was a long term idea with many losing years. You are right. But I do think it's been profitable for awhile now. They stopped losing money and started making money in 08. I'd have to think overall it's in the black now.

Xbox Live content and subscriptions alone have made Microsuck a mountain of money.

I suspect Sony learned their lessons regarding online gaming; their online network should rival Xbox Live when the next gens are released.

they've probably learned that you get what you pay for, and PSN being free has bit them in the ass.

no doubt. When comparing PSN to Live - it's like comparing MS-DOS to Windows.

It'd be nice to see MS and Sony get together and allow cross-platform online matchmaking. It won't happen in our lifetimes though.

Fanboyism would reach an epic level if it ever did.

It's annoying enough having to listen to people argue about which system is better. Would be twice as bad when it comes to who is the better gamer.

But it would be cool if it was possible.

Didn't one of the Final Fantasy games offer cross-platform mmorpg capability?

Ah, just looked it up. It was cross-platform for Xbox and PC.

Sony...hands down. Way better exclusives like little big planet, god of war, infamous, twisted metal and the free internet is icing on the cake

Yikes. It's wired, so it's good to know that Sony is planning on actually moving their technology BACKWARDS on this generation of consoles. After nearly a decade of wireless controllers, it's hard imagine how we once put up with those pesky wires, or consider actually having to go back to them.

Looks fake. Where's it from?

I don't understand all the people complaining about PSN. Maybe it's because I've never had XBL, but I love not paying for ****. I play games online like once a month on average, if that.

I know XBL has some other crap that I would never use, as well.

If all you play is once a month, then the free service makes sense for you, as you wouldn't probably even notice anything other than the basic matchmaking features. For people who play on a near daily basis, it's well worth the 17¢ a day Xbox Live costs. Party chat alone makes Xbox Live worth the price of admission.

If you shop around at all you can get a year for $35-$40 most any time. That makes it around $0.10/day.

But, if you don't play online much, no reason to pay even $0.10/day. If you play more than a little online, with friends, it's worth the price.

Anyone know where you can get a deal on xboxlive gold right now? Mine expires in March.

Source: The PS4 Will Be Out This November, And You'll Be Able To Control It With Your Phone

A reliable Kotaku source has informed us that the PlayStation 4, codenamed Orbis, will be out this November in the United States.

Our source—the same reliable source who back in early 2012 told us the codename for Sony's next console and the codename for Microsoft's next console—tells us that there are two models planned for the new machine, and that pricing won't be announced until later this year, possibly around E3. The current plan, our source says, is to release them at $429 and $529, but that could change.

Back in January, we learned about the PS4's new controller, which has a small touchpad in the center, and the fancy new user account system that will allow multiple people to log into one console at the same time.

New information revealed by our source suggests that on top of all that, you'll also be able to control the PS4 remotely from your tablet or smartphone. You'll be able to use a mobile device to chat with your PS4 friends or buy games which are then automatically downloaded to your machine, our source says.

Orbis is also following the path first set by Xbox Live: our source says "most" of the PS4's online features will require a premium subscription to use. Sony's new online service will be called PlayStation World, our source says, replacing PlayStation Plus.

Some other tidbits: our source says that every PS4 will come with a PlayStation Eye; that a new spectating feature will let you watch other friends play games from your console's dashboard, even when you don't own the game they're playing; and that the console will support local network play via Vita.
