PS4 VS Xbox720

I own both the current gen systems, but I tend to lean towards PS3, just a personal preference....I like both systems.

I do agree with those that are saying to wait a couple of months. I will give it about 6 months to let everything settle down.

I own both. Bought a 360 kept it for two years and bought a ps3. Have both now and the 360 blows the ps3 out of the water. Ps3 is too buggy, too slow.

To be honest, even more so than XBL, the reason I prefer Xbox is the controller. It's kind of funny to me that that's the reason I've ended up siding with 360, because when the original Xbox came out, the controller was actually the reason I stuck with PS2. The first Xbox controllers felt like they were about the size of an iPad and were simply too big. However, MS found some middle ground and now currently has a controller that is just right IMO. In fact after having used it, the PS3 controller, which other than going wireless for this gen hasn't changed in 15 years, just feels cheap by comparison.

I've always kind of wanted a PS3 just so I can play The Show, but could never justify dropping several hundred dollars for a system that I would literally play one single game on.

I absolutely hate the 360 controllers - and I love that Sony hasn't changed the Playstation controller (wireless aside) since the PS1. I guess different strokes for different folks.

As far as getting a PS3 for The Show - as long as you aren't thinking about getting a PS4 in the next 18 months, do it. There are a few other PSN exclusives that are pretty good and some of the games that you currently play on the 360 likely have capable PS3 equivalents.

COD, FIFA and GTA are literally the only video games I play, and my dislike for the PS controller would keep me from ever playing them on that system. As someone who rarely watches movies, the blu-ray player wouldn't offer me anything either. I just can't justify buying a whole system just for The Show, especially with the next generation of consoles so close on the horizon.

The PS3 should have a big advantage with GTA V due to sheer size of the game and maps. The 360 version will likely require multiple discs, whereas the PS3 version should fit onto one Blu-ray. But as you said, it's nearly impossible to justify that kind of purchase with the next generation of consoles so close.

the PS3 is more powerful than the 360 but it has never taken advantage of that power advantage, cross platform games don't look or play any better.

That's because the dev kit for the xbox is much simpler, and most multiplatform games are developed for Xbox and then ported to PS3. The few that are done the opposite way are marginally better on the PS3. The real difference is in PS3 exclusives over Xbox exclusives, but it's hard to compare two completely different games. Fanboys on both sides would never admit to the other having superior graphics.

It's like iPhone vs Droid. You're gonna have fanboys either side

I've had both and don't have a favorite either way. I've played many more games on the ps3, but play xbox for the most part now just because that's what my friends have and we play online.

I like the ps3 controller better, but I like that the thumbsticks on the xbox controller have a little resistance.

I have no idea what I'll buy. It'll probably be at least a year after release before I got one. That's about how long it was for the ps2 when it came out and ps3.

I'm going Wii U (for Zelda and such) and a new gaming PC this time around, since I will actually have money.

Kind of funny, I can remember getting my first super nintendo...still runs fine btw.

I got the original playstation and then the playstation 2.

Switched to the 360 in the next gen because I liked the games for it. Ended up buying the PS3 a couple of years ago. Didn't care much for it and ended up selling it to a friend for a bargain.

I'll just wait until they both come out and give it like 5 months to see what each has to offer. I'll probably be sticking with M$, but you never know.

Free internet + MLB The Show = PS4. (Even though I'll eventually have both)

Sony finally surpassed the XBOX in sales figures 2 months ago despite being released a year later. I'm not sure how it's been "kicking it's ass."

This is also a huge consideration. No point in buying a system that none of your friends have, even if you might prefer it a little more.

I have both and will get both eventually. Both have games I like that you can't get for the other. I was a huge PS fanboy for years but my girl bought me a 360 two yrs ago and I've spent much more time playing it since. I prefer the XBox controllers over Sony's other than the stupid need for endless AA batteries. The PS remote just feels more fragile. I also hate having to pay for the XB live gold membership monthly just to use Netflix.

Rechargeable batteries are a must. A set of AA's are about $10 or you can get the actual Xbox ones for about $20 for a set of two IIRC.

I had a set of rechargeable batteries from Microsoft and they crapped out on me!

Also, eBay is so 2005. No need to pay those seller fees and wait for auctions to end when you can just throw them up on Craigslist and have them sold in a couple hours with no fees whatsoever.

yeah, except Craigslist is infested with scamming cockroaches at every turn.

I've been trying to sell my macbook on there and have had to report numerous aholes to the FBI. Was bombarded by scammers.

Also, for those looking to buy early and resell, you should probably expect a lower return with this new generation of consoles.

Reason being is simply that more people are going to try the same thing after seeing people score big with the PS3's when they came out.

It's always the same thing with new technology. People start buying into the hype a month or a few weeks before the thing comes out, but by that time, all the product that is going to be available at launch is long since spoken for. The iPhone 5 this past year is the most recent example. The resale value will all depend on the amount of consoles that are available in that month leading up to Christmas. If they are plenty to go around, the resale won't be that great. If they're hard to come by, the markup for a secondhand one will be pretty substantial, because the demand will certainly be there.

If anything, the return wouldn't be any less, it might just be harder to ensure you can get one during the Holiday season, even if you plan months ahead of time.
