Pruitts qb reasoning? (Lengthy)

We get it. Maurer is your guy.

JG is not an elite QB and he took some snacks he shouldn't have and isn't the type that will take over a game... but when did 65%, 311 yards and 2 TDs become an argument for the backup QB?

We just got 38 hung on us by Ga State in our house. What are we even talking about here?
How many of those 38 came from JG and the offense putting the defense on a short field or in a bad position! I’ll wait for your answer.

The season hasn't ended yet a host of fans have surrendered already. This makes the fans as bad as they assume the team is. Quite a match I'd say. Me? I ain't joining your traitorous ranks.

10 I think, but no way I'm looking it up.

I think I've explained this 5 times in this thread. I'm not saying JG played great. I'm saying that he didn't really play bad enough for Pruitt to pull him.

I haven’t looked it up either, but I’d be willing to be it was more like 17 or more. With the mistakes and bad decision that he makes at crucial times he should never see the field much less he pulled!

I didn't attend the spring game but I did watch it on the SEC Network, and the one thing I saw that concerned me was the QB play. Yes, Guarantano started slow but it's a spring game scrimmage, so you give him the opportunity to play through it. Finished with pretty decent numbers. The thing that stood out to me was when Maurer came in, there seemed to be a pick up in energy, he made some good throws down field, but where I felt like he excelled was running the football. In hindsight, either he is better at recognizing when to run and see the field better, or it was a warning sign that the defense was going to give up big plays to a mobile QB. I think Pruitt was negligent in not at least trying a different QB to see if he could get a little fire going.

My point as well, but fine... Since he apparently inflated his numbers (by how much exactly?), let’s all just drop the QB argument and focus on the defensive point made in this post. Then let’s look at ktown-king’s second point which is also a point I have been making. I will restate what ktown-king stated, Georgia State just hung 38 on the Vols in Neyland. If Pruitt wants to win with defense, we failed big time. This game was not lost on offense.

You might not want to throw a young guy out there against teams like Bama or Ga but if JG gets out there and stinks it up against BYU or Chatt. I say put one of the other guys in and see what he has during game time. Maybe getting benched will make him work harder to keep his starting position, if he pouts on the side line and doesn't try and help the young guys then he's not a team leader and don't need him. Look at Hurts getting benched. He had all the reasons in the world to suck and pout but nope he cheered on Tua and game planned with him.

Personally I think JG got the job because Pruitt didn't want to risk starting the season without a QB that has serious playing time at the D1 level with the Vols

I’ve thought this, too. He’s been assured he’ll get 4-5 years to recruit, so he’s basically written off this year, maybe even next year. Since he may be waiting for Bailey, he has no interest in playing a younger QB such as Maurer, and creating a “quarterback controversy”, even though playing a smarter better scrambling QB now would help the team win, and bring hope and support for the team and fans. If he doesn’t make the change, he will sink with his decision to put off winning.

This is a quote by chattavol420 on game day, who nails it.

We absolutely can lay blame on jg. He had 3 turnovers which directly led to 17 of their 38 points. Also, we had so many short possessions due to him sliding short of the line to gain, checking down to the te at the line of scrimmage on 3rd and short, missing a wide open receiver for a td at the end of the first half, and missing an open receiver on 4th and short late in the game that was open. Not to mention was not on the same page with his receiver ms at least 5 times. Yes we can blame the QB

Oh but he played well enough to not get pulled!

don't forget two fumbles, and a pick..or two picks and a fumble depending on how you scored it, one on the second play of the game. Do those plays not count? does not moving the chains consistently count? stat sheet heroes get us beat, we all know that. Dobbs rarely completed 60% of his passes but moved the chains on the reg.

Lol... I guess I wrote that poorly because nobody is understanding what I meant in context. I'm not saying that JG played great. I'm saying that he didn't really stink it up to the point that you'd yank him for a freshman.

No we know exactly what you are saying. We just disagree.

JG is not good. He has had years at this level to improve, yet somehow, this past Saturday, he looked worse. His stats are a lie and don't tell the true story. Any competent SEC QB would SHRED that defense. He just is not a competent QB. No P5 school in the country would trade QB positions with us after what I saw last weekend.

Don’t forget we was down by 14 points with 1:00 minute left so I say the last TD and 60 yards was after the game had already been decided!!!

It's simple. He is much better than the other two.

65% with 300 yards isn't getting a qb benched. Lmao
Man quit sniffing the guys jockstrap. He's not that good. He consistently throws 5 or 6 yard passes. Most of the time behind the first down marker. Her then throws the short passes 90 mph an hour which means a lot of them uncatchable. When he takes off running you can have 10 yards in front of him and he slides a yard short of the first down marker. Man his record says it all. Look at his win-loss percentage as a quarterback. I would rather have a quarterback that throws for a 150 yards a game but knows how to take care of the ball and win games. That's what matters

You, like most blaming him aren't making sense or using facts.

Almost 8 ypa isn't throwing all short passes. You don't complete 65% for 300 yards with the average line and wrs we have if you throw a lot of uncatchable balls.

So you don't want a good qb, just a good team?

Y'all are hilarious.

Explain to us exactly what portion of the game those yards came in. That's the problem you keep ignoring when making these posts. We are KEENLY aware of the yardage total put up by JG Saturday. Why won't you acknowledge that versus that defense, the total is not good at all and that about 20% of his yards came against soft pass coverage designed specifically to bend and not break?

I want a good QB...JG just isn't it
At the end of the day the QB is the leader of the team, the wins, the loses gets put on their shoulders...
I don't care if he throws for 500yards. That means crap if we aren't getting wins and wins are the only stat that matter at this point.
I was willing to give JG a chance. We brought in Chaney, Tee. the guy still doesn't see the field the way he should, still looking down his receivers and he had time to throw and make choices Saturday. The Oline gave him time so can't use that as an excuse
