Pruitts qb reasoning? (Lengthy)

There was no excuse to not give one or both of them a few snaps once the game was decided in a passing situation unless there’s at least a little truth to the thread.

I agree completely. I’m even okay seeing them start against these “cupcake” teams that couldn’t possibly beat us at home. 😫🥺

But come SEC play, the QB and line play has to be figured out.

Ah who am I kidding...

As I stated, our Oline is JUCO at best right now. Until Trey gets his legs under him and Morris and Wright settle in, our only option is to hope JG doesn’t die. Combine them with his propensity to hold the ball for 14 seconds, and he might as well play cowboy poker. It’d be just as dangerous. My 2 cents.
But the o line was actually good. Even with the playing musical big ugly. Those that feel otherwise really need to go watch again. I bet he averaged 3.5 seconds and you can’t ask for more than that. I was impressed with the o line. I think some are reaching for reasons tbh.

They were average at best. At no point were they good IMO. Now, I blame the coaching musical chairs for that. No way any of them could get into any kind of rhythm doing that. But they are young and they got pushed around pretty bad by a glorified high school team.

I don’t think we’re all ready to see a Freshman get killed behind that atrocious line. That to me, is the biggest reason we haven’t and won’t see Shrout or Mauer Saturday: because it’s only a matter of time before JG runs off the field in his underwear confused and punch drunk unable to think clearly.
Saturday JG had time to throw. He wasn't back there running for his life or getting taken down as soon as he touched the ball. Can't use the OLine didn't protect excuse.
Sat would have been a good time to either one of the other QB's
JG is just gonna have to sulk on the side lines and is free to transfer at the end of the season

I should’ve clarified. I agree for this past week and probably the next 2 games, we could’ve seen what the back ups could do. But come SEC play, that Oline is going to get destroyed.

I’m sure he’ll settle on his 5 this week. People are pissed at him right now but the dude does know what he’s doing. I see what he was trying to do with GAST. He was rotating o lineman to find the best combo under game pressure thinking we win regardless. He was wrong and knowing he was going to do that we were all wrong as well. But he still had to do it in order to even possibly compete with Florida in 3 weeks.

I really wish I could multi like this post.
I'm not getting this the Oline was bad Saturday. Were they perfect? No but they pretty much did what they needed to do in protecting JG and giving him time to pass the ball.

You lost me at “he knows what he’s doing...”

I 100% disagree with that. He had all off season. And, he should know that shuffling players in a real, live game is asking for trouble! And then, when it didn’t work, stick with 5 just to win the game and get back to figuring crap out in practice. I’m convinced Pruitt is in over his head and realizes it.

I see people criticizing JG for not seeing the blitzing corner that caused the FF. He was in press on the outside and never gave a hint he was coming until the snap. It literally took him over 3 seconds to get there. JG was still siting in an EXTREMELY clean pocket when he was hit.

It’s not a common practice by any means. But it had no effect on the loss. They played well, especially in pass pro. We lost that game due to lack of push on d line and QB play. Nothing more.

When would you have done that? Even with 2 minutes to go and down 2 TDs, they had to leave the starters out there for a last gasp at a quick score and onside kick.

We just see it differently. No biggie. 👊🏼 At the end of the day, I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that had I won a contest to coach for a day and been pulled out of the stands, I could’ve went back to my NCAA 2002 days and personally coached that team to victory. My hot routes were nasty. Lol...

A loss is a loss. Doesn’t matter if it’s 38-30 or 38-23. It’s still a loss. So he should’ve did it then if he wasn’t going to do it at the half.

Lmao. You right. I woulda went Madden on em

We get it. Maurer is your guy.

JG is not an elite QB and he took some snacks he shouldn't have and isn't the type that will take over a game... but when did 65%, 311 yards and 2 TDs become an argument for the backup QB?

We just got 38 hung on us by Ga State in our house. What are we even talking about here?
It’s not the yards or completions, he shats the bed in the red zone. He make poor decisions when the time comes. He is great from 20 to 20. It falls apart in the red zone. Bad QB

He held that ball way too long... At some point he needed to either run or find someone to dump it off to, there was no excuse to take that sack.
He just doesn't have that internal clock that is needed or feeling the pressure.
I'm still in awe that he still stares down his receivers as much as he does.
I just feel at this point. We've seen our ceiling with him. Time to give someone else some snaps and see what happens but to me he doesn't fire his team up and that's another job of the QB as the leader of the team, fire them up. Make them believe they can still win the game. Players will rally behind a QB that does that.
Look at Ga St guys. They believed in their guy and fed off his emotion

It's simple. He is much better than the other two.

65% with 300 yards isn't getting a qb benched. Lmao
No but constant turnovers, 0 trust, failure to execute meaningful plays, sliding short of 1st down, concrete feet, blindness to blitzing, lack of ball security, & having no touch on passes will

I understand what you mean though. But you get a feel for a game. I knew we were going to lose that game by the third quarter. Not a single Vol fan would agree a quick score, onside kick and another quick score would be possible with such a stagnant offense.

Lol...Believe me, I know it wasn't going to happen, but waving a white flag against Ga State would've been as bad as it gets.

When 70 of the 300 yards were handed to you in a prevent defense and 1 of your 2 touchdowns were a result of said soft coverage/ prevent defense when your a$s is already beat.

You have a right to your own take but I'm wondering if you just aren't bright. This was Georgia State. Vandy and Missouri put up 40 points easily on Georgia State. You act like 300 yards was a monster day. This was Georgia State. This was Georgia State and JG was a game manager and not a very good one at that. I think many see the writing on the wall against better teams with JG at QB.

Your take is in the minority even among beat writers.

I agree. The problem is Pruitt doesn’t.

It would've been know as the Rocky Top Miracle..:D
May as well put in Shrout or Maurer to see what they had. With Bailey coming, unless he changes his mind JG won't be the Vols starter next season anyway..The next two games if JG struggles early. Pull him....let him pout on the sideline.

Lol... I guess I wrote that poorly because nobody is understanding what I meant in context. I'm not saying that JG played great. I'm saying that he didn't really stink it up to the point that you'd yank him for a freshman.
