The absolute worse thing that could happen now would be a coaching change. Pruitt is slowly adding players of SEC caliber...Jone left him with no speed and only one lineman above 300 pounds. The schedule change to all 10 SEC teams worsened chances of having a 7 - 5 winning record. Let's support Coach Pruitt...he will get us competitive again. Remember he has to play Georgia, Florida and Alabama every year. Eventually, we will get competitive with them again.
Didnt KY also have their spring practices cancelled? I was under the impression all SEC schools had their spring practices cancelled. Im fairly certain that Arkansas and Kentucky aren't in the Top 25.

Pruitt keeps his job if he wins out. Otherwise I think he needs to go. The probability of him winning out is about 0% chance. Even coaches like muschamp and McElwain at Florida still won games they were supposed to most of the time. So what keeps Pruitt’s job 3-7 with a VANDY win? I say nah, the writing is on the wall, gotta move on.

I think he survives going 2-8.

He’d need to screw up similarly as bad next season for the admin to even start to consider a change in 2022.

All he has to do is beat Vanderbilt and he gets another year. He just got a two year extension and defeated Indiana in the bowl game.

He needs to throw caution to the wind and tell Chaney to open things up with Bailey. Yes he will look at times like a inexperienced T freshman he will make mistakes throw interceptions. But if he is the man going forward he will simply learn from mistakes and grow from them. If he is Mentally Weak he is not the answer anyway. He has to give more chances to Holiday who is electric find ways to get him the ball in space And finally he has to give D Beckwith some snaps at TE because if you are going to run the football you have to have a TE Threat. Ark was giving us all all game long 5 yard plays to the TE and we never went that way. Maddening. IN CHRIST ALONE

Face it folks - with the cash strapped situation UT finds itself in this year and the buyouts (see below) that would be needed Pruitt is here at least one more year.

Unless he gets this team to a 9 win or better season, is in the hunt for the SEC East, and takes out one of the "Big 3" then 2021 will likely be his last in Knoxville.

As far as cash strapped - a lot of people throw out the "covid year" and that's crap !!! Every other team in the nation has had to deal with the same limited practice, revised schedule, missing players, and protocols UT has and yet you never hear anyone of them use it as an excuse. For example, LSU and the way their year has gone...yet Orgeron has never used it as an excuse. Where Covid has affected UT has been the bottom line. Reportedly, as of right now, the UTAD is facing a 1.5 to 2 million dollar shortfall this year. To overcome that shortfall, they will need to lean heavily on donors and making a change in a coach that is going to cost additional millions is not a good picture when asking for money to stay afloat.

Buyouts - If cut loose this season, Pruitt would be expected a buyout of around 12 million. I think that number goes down a little after the first of the year, but if you're going to pull the trigger this season do you really want to wait that long and be left with an even shorter list of good candidates. YES Pruitt's buyout will be paid out in installments over a period of time, but UT should use that to their advantage if possible. The AD could negotiate for a smaller buyout paid out sooner and save some long term cash (it's not uncommon for a buyout to be negotiated to 75% if paid in full within 3 to 6 months on contracts meaning it would cost UT 6 to 8 million this year)...or the AD could do a longer term and pay less per annum to keep the ready cash on hand ala Butch Jones and it would only see a cost of 2 million this year. Either direction you go though, you still have those heavily paid assistants' buyouts to account. Assuming none are retained, UT could be on the hook for another 4 to 5 million this year. So total on the hook for making a change this year would be 6 million on the low end and 13 on the high end...let's go back to that paragraph about cash strapped...

Its just a waste of time to keep posting about firing Pruitt this season unless it just makes you feel better. As excellently stated above, its not happening. End of 2021 is the better realistic option. I think Chaney and Weinke are both gone end of this season. The old fire the assistants to save the HC job for another season.

PLEASE STOP!!!

-Do you realize with the edition of Cade Mays TN projected to have one of the Top 5 Offensive lines in the country? The performance this year is inexcusable! UK and ARK losses ARE Fireable Offenses.
-Do you realize Butch was competitive, yes Butch with GA & FL. Even 2017 (the year Butch was fired he almost beat FL). Pruitt walked into a bad situation, yes. However, the lack of production and development at the QB position is 100% Pruitt's fault.
-Do you realize due to poor coaching TN is 2-4 this year when they should be 4-2?
-Do you realize TN, barring a miracle, is almost certainly looking at 3-7 this year-finishing at or very near the bottom of the SEC?
-Do you realize the trend is going in the wrong direction in year 3 of the Pruitt experiment?

Just think..tenneseee just got beat by a team with all the same issues with corona, a first year coach, all of 7 defensive line scholarships and a QB that washed out at Florida. Was it all the things you listed that failed to make half time adjustments? How about half the season in and being abused by slants? Or the late game decision to not kick the FG?

He likely will lose out. Given everything that is going on, I think the real debate is whether he gets fired if he finishes 2-8, which will mean closing with an 8-game losing streak and losses to Ky and Vandy.

Under no circumstances should a third-year UT keep his job under such circumstances, but my wager would be that we are stuck with Pruitt for next season no matter what happens.

Do you realize a team that was 0-20 in SEC play in in last years beat us with a first time head coach ...with lesser talent and less time to install ?

Do you realize KY, which we have consistently out recruited for years (if not decades) not only beat us but plummeted us at our home ?

oh wait ..

Do you realize that GA St. beat us at our home ?

Do you realize that SEC elites beat us year in and out like we are GA St ?

So stop with this Do you realize kind of BS.

What amazes me is how long it took our fan base (which had seen nothing but bad coaching for 15 years) to realize Pruitt is as lost as last year’s Easter Egg. And the Dabo comparisons are ridiculous. Pruitt has miles to go become a consistently competitive coach, much less a generational great! The dude has rode somebody else’s gravy train since his HS coaching days. Just about the only thing most of Saban’s former assistants pick up is entitlement. Thanks to COVID and that stupid extension, it is gonna be a long 2-3 years before even can even start to dig out of this mess

Actually no one in the SEC got much spring practice in other than Vanderbilt. No one practiced at all after March 12-13. Most notably Arkansas had no spring practice AND a brand new coach. SEC Spring Football Schedule

I think Pruitt and the staff can only be judged on 1 issue at this point. They did not recruit, or get thru transfer, an SEC level QB until last season. JG, without those catch anything receivers, is an interception machine. We are a disabled football team that has no ability to get the ball to the playmakers. You can't judge their ability to coach based on this situation, no coach alive could win under these circumstances. You can judge them for betting all our chips on JG with zero backup. The only thing to do now is focus on the problem, fix it and don't let it happen again. The hogs had an SEC level QB and we did not.

Every other team in the country was prevented from spring practice also everyone had same circumstances at each other across the country. It’s not excuse!!

Butch Jones beat Florida and UGA twice and was Competive with Bama. So I don’t wanna hear Pruitt is gonna get is there when he hasn’t showed us anything. Pruitt has lost to UGA State, BYU, Kentucky at home, at least Butch won those types of games and beat the **** out of Big10 teams in bowl games that was ranked and won 9 games twice. So now Pruitt is in his 3rd year snd we are still blaming the last 2 coaching staffs. This is Pruitts team and he has been starting JG 3 years and has 3 years to develop a QB and he has not yet. So that is on him.

Pruitt already loses to teams with inferior talent so what makes you think he'll do any better with a veteran team?

I hope you’re right but year three should not be going like this. There’s more to it than we probably know. I see a big staff shake up after this.
