Pruitt jokes about onside

I'd just take a few PI's and rough up their receivers, body up on them, play them tight. Then maybe cheap shot Tua a time or two. They're going to score a 50 spot if you play timid off the ball coverage. Rough them up. Nothing really to lose, except by maybe 70.. Still wouldn't care.

In other words, cheat intentionally.

What we have to lose is being the first team in the modern Era to lose a game by more than 100 points.

And I'm not being sarcastic. If Pruitt pulled some crap like that Saban would most likely try to break a scoring record.

Use a 4 down offense and run the ball 90% plus short high percentage passes to run eat the clock. Shorten the game. Give them the ball short field to save the defensive energy for last quarter. they will pull starters if they get ahead.

I think if you're going into a game thinking we can't stop them so let's just do something dumb and onside kick every time, you've already lost in your mind.

So I don't agree with that.
Yep, weve lost this game before we even step in the field.

You can just line up off them 5 to 7 yards and watch them run by you. Get some popcorn and watch the show. If you're not pressing their receivers you've already lost.. As far as hitting Tua. That's just a we're here thing. Any hit on QB these days is considered cheap. I hate Tom Brady.

Alabama's defense is good but not unbelievably good like the offense. We scored 14 on Georgia in the first quarter and they have a better defense than Alabama.

Regardless my point was more along the lines that if Pruitt does something Bush league like onside kick the opening kick off, Saban might just run 4 verts every play until the 4th quarter.

So we should coach in a way to not make Saban angry? Ok.

You don't have to like it but the fact of the matter is there is an etiquette to playing title contenders when you are hoping not to have your worst season of all time.

All of a sudden its important to think we can beat Bama. If we were to try this onside kick trick, we've already lost before we hit the field? Oh no.

But I thought there was a better chance of Elvis and Michael Jackson doing a comeback tour this Christmas than beating Bama.

Haha. This is dumb. Within the rules, you do whatever the hell you want. You lead your team and to hell with anyone else's team.

I don't think we want or need to get into a "rough'm up game" with Bama.......

Dust off the Kiffin game plan vs Florida & Bama in 2009. Run the ball, run the clock, play zone D, try to limit their possessions and hope to hold them to FGs as much as you can.
Assuming we can run the ball and make first down. We got totally shut down by GA trying to run.

No one knows. Practically everyone has played Bama man and gone after Tua. He’s picked everyone apart with 10-15 yard crossing patterns than go for 50+ yards. Trying to simply out score them is insane and punting to them on 3rd down is even dumber. Slow the game down & run the ball.
Yes you have to slow the game down but you can only slow it down by converting first downs on long drives. If you're not going 80 yards in 9 minutes and getting TDs they will blow you off the field

Pruitt won't have the chance to employ any of the strategy posted herein. Bama will have an epic meltdown during the Tennessee game. Their loss to the Vols will dwarf UGA's recent unraveling to SoCar. It will be the story of week 8.

He joked about on siding and not punting , like the Arkansas high school powerhouse does.

DO IT... what do we have to lose ?
I am more in favor of punting on some 3rd downs so we can pin them as deep as possible and make them drive the entire field. Also playing soft coverage to give them easy 4-5 yards in middle of the field to limit explosive plays. Each of their drive should take atleast 4-5 minutes to score. When we have the ball, we should not snap it more with more than 2 seconds on the clock and run as much as possible. See if we can make this game as short as possible and frustrate the hell out of them.

I think you have to go to a no huddle offense and milk every minute off the clock that you can on offense. You have to limit Alabama’s possessions as much as you can on offense and prevent them from substituting on defense. It’s easier said than done but you have to force a few punts out of Bama and sustain a few drives even if you don’t score on them. I don’t think we are going to be able to line up and run the ball very well against Bama. I do think you can pass the ball on them but you have to do it in a way that keeps the clock moving

I think you are missing the point of a no huddle offense

I actually like the idea of going for it on 4th and short every time. No matter the field position...

The only problem I have is that Pruitt has given up any element of surprise by suggesting it. In 2007, in his first year as head coach of Alabama, Saban called an onside kick on the opening kickoff against UT. That move, along with other aggressive coaching decisions, completely unnerved Fulmer, and #20 ranked TN went on to lose 41-17 against an unranked Bama. We haven't one against Bama since.

Pruitt tried an onside kick in the 2nd quarter last year. I think the element of surprise is kind of blown at this point.

Maybe the 1 was this Saturday.

That’s true. 3 and out all night won’t slow it down.

Boils down to what is the probability of converting on 4th down and recovering an onside kick vs stopping their offense. I know it sounds crazy but from what I've seen of Bama so far this year the odds are better being unconventional. When you can regularly score 50+ yard touchdowns on bubble screens and quick slant passes field position doesn't seem like much of an advantage. I'm curious how many times they have punted this year when the first team offense is playing?

The short field will confuse them because they don't know how to score from inside the 30 yard line.
